Do any of you guys have a Sargent seat on your 02-04? If you do, How do you like it? My butt hurts after a couple of hours on the stock one

Have you compared it to the Triumph Gel seat? I bought that and it was even worse for the shape of my butt. I keep seeing Sargent seats show up on ebay for a decent price, but I'm wary of pissing away more money on just another seat that will make my ass frown.

Yes, I had a gel seat and I 100% agree with you. I sold it, pronto.

The only potential problem with the off the shelf Sargent is that it is wider and therefore if you are short it will make flat-footing more of a chore. That doesn't apply to me but it is noticeable compared to the thin stocker. I usually move up in the front when in the twisties and slide back to the really nice wide part when cruising.

Ass frown... :lollol:

Thanks for the info beers2u. One more question, how long can you stay on your bike before it gets uncomfortable? Would I be able to ride for four or five hours, only stopping for gas?

Wanker,

I had the same problem on my 2002 S3 as you. But now that I've had her a while, the seat has either broken in for me, or my butt has broken in for it. Either way, what before was a painful ride after an hour, is now no problem after 2-3.

Can't say it will be the answer for you wanker but yes I can ride all day (with occasional stops for gas/snack/whiz) in reasonable comfort. And I am somewhat of a wimp in that regard. I can't really stand to be in a (relatively) cushy car for more than 300 miles, even with stops. I have done almost 400 on the bike (mostly twisties, no slab) and felt fine. That's probably because the bike is fun and the car on the slab is boring.

I don't know how the Iron Butt guys do it...after a couple hours on the slab I'd be bored lifeless. At least in the car I've got a kickin' stereo!

Heh, MP3 player and frequent butt breaks is the way I do it.

A further question about the Sargent;

The stock and gel seats feel like they put most of the pressure right in the middle of the seat (aka crack/prostate pressure). Does the Sargent better distribute this by its shape and padding to the outside of your butt? I don't really have a problem with comfort when wearing my leather sport jeans, but in regular jeans or khakis I'm constantly shifting around after about a half hour.

I know that most people seem to like the Sargent over the Corbin, but I just bought a Corbin for my bike a couple months ago and I can really tell a difference from the stock seat (especially in the back of my ass). It felt like a brick out of the box but after about 100 miles started conforming to my fat ass nicely. Of course the longest I've ridden on it so far is about a 200 mile day trip, and about 1k miles total. I can let you know how I really feel about it after this weekend when I do 600 down to the rat raid in NC.

Last I heard, Corbin does not make a seat for the '02-'04 Speed Triple.

I did a 500 mile day (mostly twisties) on the stock seat shortly after I bought the bike new in '02 and my a** was on fire by the end of that long day.

My fiancee got me the Triumph gel seat a couple years ago for Christmas and it's been way better than stock. It was a bit stiff for the the first hundred or so miles, but now it's broken in and feels great for long days...
