How many of you track your Triple? My last bike was a Zx6r and I want my next bike to be more fun and have more character. Been also looking at Ducs, SV1000, K1200r and S etc. I really have been leaning toward the Speed Triple.

Although I want general street fun I do plan on getting some track time in and perhaps taking a superbike course or two. If I want to enjoy street fun but also plan on taking bike ownership to the track is the Speed triple a bad choice? Would a 955i be a better Triumph representation of this all around intent?

A Daytona 955i will be faster on the track, hands down.

I suppose the new 675 Daytona will also be quite the hot rod on the track. We'll have to wait and see.

However, the 05/06 Speed Triple is the most fun to be had on the street of any bike you can buy. It's just so well rounded that it screams FUN!

It's handling is very good and the engine has a power band bigger than J-Lo's moneymaker. What it doesn't have is the top end necessary to make a really fast track bike.

It kills things like the Buell and Ducati Monster on the track, but it can't compete with the GSXRs, Ducati 999 and ZRs. Probably the SV1000 is out of it's league too, although the BMW is such a horse handling wise you'd probably whomp it in the twisties. So, if you want to run in the middle and have fun on the street it's your girl. If not, then you'd better go with a Daytona.

The S3 is definately "all it can be" down right tame around town (if you let it be  ) and crazy fun on the twisties. I'll be doing my first track day this weekend... But I don't have anything to compair it to. (except my 911) At least I know it will be really fun. I don't really care if I can blow the socks off a gixxer or other. It's all about me!! If I'm having fun going "slow" then hey... I'm good.

There are a few shots of guys on their S3's on the track. Do a search....

My goal for track time is fun so I guess I don't care too much about beating full on superbikes. But I at least want to know it can be leaned over etc.

You say the 955 would be faster... I wonder if the ST would be fetter around the track too?

I would say no. All of the things that make the S3 slower are there in the Sprint ST, with the addition of a slightly de-tuned engine. Yes, the full fairing makes up for some of it, but I think the factors cancel each other out. It certainly would be more comfortable at 100 mph+!

The ST is a fine motorcycle. Don't get me wrong.

If you want to go fast on the track, then Daytona. I have both a new S3 and a new Daytona 955I. The Daytona will slaughter an S3 on the track. On the street the S3 is more fun. It's hard to have your cake and eat it too.

Oh it can definately be leaned over... You'll have NO issues there...

Mad,

Does the Triple's motor feel stronger than the 955? If the 1050 is the newest motor, will it find its way to the Daytona? If so then would it be a bad investment to buy a 955i?

How are the sounds? Can you differentiate their characters a little more?

The Daytona is faster. It has faster acceleration and top speed. Everything the Daytona does well happens around the 10K RPM mark. Spinning the Daytona engine up to get to the sweet spot will be a cop magnet in every gear. It's not much fun on the street.
The Triple is a blast at about 5K RPM because all it's torque is in at that point. Everything the S3 does well is at much lower RPM's. It's a blast on the street.

You cannot compare the sounds of the two engines, Different exhaust systems, different power bands, different motors. I have the TORS on the Daytona also. It's a nasty whine when it gets on the pipe. It also has a new Map to go with the TORS. Awesome is all I can say.

If I was mostly a street rider I'd get the S3. If I did a little track time now and then and went on high speed blasts with some buddies on the twisties and high speed straights, I'd get the Daytona.

This is why I have both bikes. You can't get everything you want out of just one bike. You gotta compromise or buy both. You can probably tell by my bike inventory that I like to be diverse. Can I campare a turbo Busa with a Triumph? NO.

Thanks for the feedback Mad. And yes, judging by your bike list (turbo busa) you are definitely Mad.

The problem is that what you have done with bikes I have historically done with cars. See www.cardomain.com/id/amacc

I think bikes may take over as the dominant hobby. It helps that they're much cheaper. I will want some track time also.

I will have to ride them all. Perhaps a duc 998 or 999 would be the one since they have decent torque around town, look great and are fun on the track? Who knows.
