Whoever has a 05 triple might want to silicone or waterproof your plug leads as after the last time i washed my bike it wouldn't start.Thought this just might be coincidence to some other problem but upon removing tank and airbox to get to plugs, then removing rubber plug lead which has the coils in them the chamber that the plugs sit in where half full with water, this caused the bike not to start.Ihave had the bike for about 4 months now and washed it probably 6 times, ridden in rain a couple of times.Judging by the amount of sludge in there it has been a problem from new.If you don't want to fix this problem yourself take it to your dealer because as far as i'm concerned this is a factory fault and a warranty claim. My local dealer fixed mine under warranty.(Don't know if earlier models had this problem) On top of all that it is still a awesome motorbike.

Not using a pressure sprayer to clean the bike are you? I've ridden in all kinds of rain and ***** and haven't gotten water up under the gas tank.

No pressure washers just garden hose used at low pressure to basically just rinse suds off, have always known not to use pressure to clean my bikes, don't know they might not have been pushed in properly at factory, just one of those things i guess.

You aren't the first one to report this, however it seems to be an issue with only some bikes. I'm not sure why.

I've hose washed mine all summer with no ill effects, and one day last spring I rode over 100 miles in a thunderous, toad strangling, downpour. I've never had problem one starting.

I am curious what the plugs look like, but I'm waiting for the seasonal torrential rains come the the Evergreen State to tear the thing apart.

Thanks mate, good call. I've only washed mine a couple of times now with no problems.

Stupid question, I know, but do any of you know how to remove the airbox? There must be some knack to it...I just can't figure out how the base of the airbox is secured. I'd like to take a look at the plugs myself (and a few other things). Thanks in advance for your help.

See this thread - Page Title

Go down to the post by 02S3 to see pic of plug!!!! (My pic didn't post properly, but it looks exactly the same). 2 out of 3 of my plugs were already corroded after only 5500 miles!!!

Apparently, water in the plug ports is pretty common on these bikes - I now take even greater care not to spray water directly on top of the motor!!!!

I gotta ask, just how dirty are your bikes getting? Frankly, I have had to use a hose one time, and then just let the water run over the motor. I see no real reason to have to "wash" them constantly. Mine gets a good going over wipe down everyday. But very little water time...
