I asked them if I bought some aftermarket cans how much they would charge to re-map the FI. They wanted an hour which equates to $70. I could have sworn that some here said thier dealer would do it for free.

It depends a lot on why you want your bike re-flashed. If it's because there's some problem (backfiring or whatever) then they likely will do it for free under warranty. Otherwise, it's probably going to cost you.

Then again, if you bought your aftermarket exhaust from your dealer they would probably be more willing to re-flash on the cheap.

An hour to re-flash is ridiculous, but most shops have a minimum. Mine is 1/2 hour but if you ask your dealership they probably have a 1 hour minimum.

Many aftermarket exhaust manufactures for the 05 S3 are reporting that they work just fine with the factory map, so I wouldn't worry about it unless there are problems; in which case you might be able to talk them into a free or reduced price re-map.

My dealer charged me $25 and it was a waste of money. It started backfiring and became harder to start.

My dealer did it free of charge in 15 minutes while I sat and watched.

No more backfires through the new cans, runs smooth with a nice increase in grunt.

I invested in a tuneboy software/cable package and it has been an excellent tool so far for not only remapping the computer, but also for diagnosing any problems. I am not sure if they are available for the newest generation though.

Neg, the 05+ S3s and STs have a different ECU. Tuneboy is working on it though.

My dealer will reflash for free if one buys the cans from them also. Otherwise the labour cost was for 0.5 hours (a 20min job according to the mechanic, but 0.5 hours is the minimum billing they do).

My dealer charged £38 English ponds for a remap when I fitted a pair of Art cans. The bike was backfiring from brand new and with Arts at first but the remap has cleaned the whole ting up. Same I quite liked the backfiring....

Exactly what my dealer said Martin.

After a $10,000 bike, then $500 cans, he said it seemed excessive to hit me up for a remap too, so it was for free.

However, he had 2 maps in his programmer. We tried the first one and I think it was Triumph's early bad map. The bike backfired even MORE.

But the second one we loaded ran nicely.

HotMail Guy,

Tell your dealer that they hand them out for free in the Northeast if you buy their cans.

They plug in the programmer under your seat, then type in some parameters, and walk away while it downloads to your ECU. They can be working on another bike while yours is doing it's 10 minute download.

I'm surprised that they'd try that ***** in Indiana. I thought things were generally cheaper out there.

Here in Connecticut they try to bone you for everything. I'm glad my dealer doesn't follow suit.

Same here. My dealer charged me $45, and then it was backfiring like crazy on decel. I brought it back and he put the stock map back in free of charge  It runs better with the stock map, too. I was only trying the aftermarket map to see if I was missing anything . . .
