So I'm still on the market since selling my zx6r a couple of years ago. I want a bike with good street power, style and is not a dime a dozen. The SV is clearly the bang for the buck winner in these categories. And when I rode it the torque felt great.

However, the BMW K1200r is also calling me. That ugly bulldog look that can be enhanced with a chin and seat cowl. That single sided swing arm. That power...

If you look at the powercup racer you have an idea of the look I'd be after. See: http://www.bmwk1200s.com/Images/K1200R_HP-.jpg

Same goes for the 05 speed triple which I am shocked I'm even considering. I would have never considered a fully naked bike. But with all the rave reviews of the power and flexibility of that new 1050, the handling, wheelie potential (not that I'm a hooligan) and it does have a sweet rear with the high mounts. Makes me wonder if I should put a chin on it and get the body colored screen and call it a day.

I used to be a full on sportbike or nothing type. Now that I'm looking to get another one, I find myself more interested in a bike that keeps me grinning, is unique, yet has at the very least a street fighter look if not full sportbike.

So who has ridden a K1200r? I wonder how the power delivery of 167 hp and 87 lb-ft torque I4 compares with the Speed's triple with 128 hp and 82 lb-ft.

BTW, if I want to be a little less naked and more street fighter look, are there any pics of chin spoilers and perhaps a body colored wind screen?

...propably would whup triple“s ass real good. But it is heavy with very long wheelbase. No idea how it handles in the twisties.

I think it looks really good in the Replika colors (have some more pics in my album):

Supposedly it handles really really well and the hossack front pretty much masks the longer wheelbase. That being said it still has a longer wheelbase than the S3. It is really expensive though, when compared to your two other picks. It has the benefit of giving you bags and comfy passenger accomodations as well as nekid goodness.

I'm sure the power delivery of the K1200R would be amazing, but I just can't get used to the styling. For some reason, it reminds me of Bender from Futurama. If I had the scratch to consider a K1200, I'd go for the S. Anyway, pick up the recent Motorcyclist. They did a naked bike comparo and picked the S3 over the 1200R.

As for the S3 being too naked, have you considered the Sprint? I wish I had room for two Trumpets in the garage so I could have one for the long rides.

You can get a k1200r for around 14k if it isn't loaded with heated grips, adjustable suspension etc. As far as considering the Sprint ST I think its a little too conservative for me. The k1200r has attitdude as does the Triple.

If I did the something full fairing I would probably go with K1200s or something like a used 999.

So do any of you put chin spoilers and bikini wind screens on?

Evoking, check out the latest issue of Motorcyclist (if you haven't already) is pairs the K1200r vs Monster S4R vs S3 vs FZ1. S3 came out on top.

They said the K1200 was too long (6 inches longer than the S3) which resulted in poor steering geometry and it was the heaviest. As far as low to mid power range (torque) the S3 killed the FZ1 and S4R and beat out the K1200 until about 4250 RPMs. Though in all of the 0-60, 0-100 and top gear roll ons the K1200 ruled. I have to admit the K1200 has alot of bells and whistles like electronically adjustable (as in handlebar push button) suspension and other things I would probably never need but are cool.
