can anyone recommend the triumph or bagster tank cover + bag combo.

i think the triumph one is about £130 and the bagster £180.

i would like to keep costs down so if the triumph one is up to the job then i'd rather get that.

I looked at those combinations, but just didn't like them. I ended up getting an Oxford humpback tankbag and harness. The harness required some modification to make it work, but I'm happy with it now. And it only cost £60!

I talked to someone who had the triumph one, he replaced it with a bagster one because he said the triumph one had metal staples (or something) inside that scratched the tank.

I have ordered the bagster one though my local bikeshop and will report my findings. I also like the pratika nylon bag from bagster. I think the prices are better than triumph in any case though... arent they always?

(I know its no where near 180 pounds ....) The bag alone is only 80 euros and I doubt the cover is too much more...

Do you have any more specific info about this tank scratching?

I have the Triumph bag on order and I might still have time to bail out, if you know for a fact that the cover is unusable.

I have the Bagster combo. I have had one for years on my last bike so this time just needed the tank cover as the bag will fit. Great quality, but fiddly to fit the tank cover if you don't always want it on.

I would recommend one, but have a look on e-bay for a second hand bag and then you just need that tank cover.

Well, all I have to go on was a guy with an 05 triple I met at my bike dealer. He had done lots of great customizations to his bike and seemed pretty knowledgeable. He told me he replaced it for the scratching problem. Frankly, I can't be sure but I think triumph would have to be pretty dense to make a harness with metal contact points inside.
On the other hand if its too late to stop the order and your tank cover turns out to be full of metal staples, you can always glue some fabric or rubber patches inside.

One thing I cannot understand is the cheap construction of the 05s3 seat:

If you pay close attention to the under-side of the seat you will notice a bunch of staples that hold the hole shebang together. One of those staples already managed to scratch off a piece of paint from the tank... how's it possible to have such a cheezy peace of ***** on a >10000€ bike!?!? Agh!
