The wife likes to ride sometimes for a breakfast in the mountains. How is the S3 for short Jaunts (<1 hr) up the twisties?

MadMac,

Not sure about the '05/06 S3, but I can tell you that my '04 S3 is awesome for 2up. My girl friend and I ride almost every weekend and the twisties are just a blast. The bike handles great and in fact sometimes I almost forget I have a passenger. Might be the fact that she is quite small and is an excellent passenger, but I think the bike also has a lot to do with it too. I have ridden other bikes 2up in the past and none of them compare to my S3. I am sure the new model has to be similiar in 2up fun.

The '05 S3 is OKish for short 2 up rides as long as you remember to adjust the suspension to the 2 up setting every time.

This is assuming your lady is smallish to medium sized as the passenger pegs to seat ratio is very close. Under 30cm if I remember correctly, so longer people might have numb legs quite quickly.

My wife's quite short (five foot) but she finds sitting on the back feels like she's a squatting monkey with her knees up by her ears.

After four miles she was in agony. So much so that I'm having to design extended hangers for the rear footpegs to lower them by around six inches. As well as feeling a tad insecure she complains it's a real struggle hanging on because, unlike my previous ZRX 1200 and GSX 1400, she can't grip the seat / bodywork with her thighs so all the effort of staying on is transmitted to her calves and arm muscles.

EDIT. I stand corrected. Apparently my wife is five foot six and very nearly tall! It's difficult to tell, way up here at 6 foot one.
