Has anyone ported the stock exhaust header? Mine looks a bit rough. I have heard that a ponies can be liberated by doing this.

Do you mean bore out the stock exhaust to expand it as like say one would do with a cylinder???? If so, would it really inc the HP??? Interesting subject............... . Anyone more knowledgable about this have any thoughts??? I would be interested to hear about it.

Apparently you can grind and polish the headers where they meet the exhaust ports for better flow. If you go on the TuneBoy website, there are pictures and instructions on how to achieve this. Also info on cleaning up the intake side as well.

what is the "tuneboy" website? i would like to look at that.

i have ported many car cyl. heads and intakes, but there is not much room for porting on the headers. i wouldnt touch that side! maybe the head (intake and exhaust sides) and the intake. i havent been brave enough to take anything off the bike to check it out yet.

Porting is not actually quite "true" on my part. Apparently the header is meant to be quite "rough" and could benefit from tidying up, i.e. with a dremel etc. I have heard that is is worth an Hp or two. I wonder if anyone on here has done and tested such?

Also the head itself could do with a minor clean up or so I have been told.

Though I haven't peeked at the inside of my header I imagine that any imperfections however large or small would of been coated with carbon after the first couple of hundred miles. I have heard of taking the header off and getting it ceramic coated inside and out to help dissipate heat. But nothing about improving exhaust flow.

I would think you would see more of a performance increase and better use of your time by putting a coat of wax on the tank and fenders than scraping the inside of the header. You would need awfully long fingers to get that dremmel down in the header around the bends :-D !
