So I finally get a weekend to take the triple on its first real trip and stretch its legs a little bit and of course something needs to break. I was prolly doing about 120-130 and all of a sudden i hear a snap and my speedometer stops working, pull into a gas station and find that the cable has actually broken off the threaded metal piece where the cable screws into the gauge cluster\speedometer(the silver part, now it's just a little brass nub sticking out). I assume the wind pushed the cable back(although not enough to tear the rubber loop on the front fender) and caught the tire. In any event anyone have any idea whether i need to get a whole new gauge cluster? I assume the speedometer is not a seperate entity. Thanks.

On the bright side though I guess I'll be getting free mileage until it gets fixed.

It's unlikely the wind that ripped the cable out - more likely it was cross- threaded or loosely fitted in the first place. Some tw4t recently ripped mine out from the front wheel with the footpeg of his moped so I know it's about 35 euros from yer local Triumph (st/d)ealer for the cable. Comes with all the necessary fittings.

If the threads are stripped on the speedo housing wrap them with some ptfe tape from a plumbing supplier.

its not that the threads are stripped, like the metal that was the threading broke off completely so just the brass receiver that was inside the threading is exposed.
