Hi guys, I have just got my Speedie back from the shop after having noticed pulsing in my brakes when braking hard. the analysis is that one of my disks is slightly bent. Now instead of getting the standard triumph disk to replace it, i have decided to look at possible upgrades. so i put it to u guys: What brakes are good? What brakes are the best bang for buck? what pads are good? where is the best place to buy from?
Any input on this little delima whould be fantastic.
Are you just buying rotors and pads? If your current pads are within spec, I would just hunt on ebay for a replacement rotor. If money is no object look at the Galfer Wave rotors (or any other wave rotor) and maybe some EBC HH pads.
I also have a 2008 and also have been looking at upgrades.
Someone here sent me a PM with a source they had for galfers, and they offered a good price. I couldn't do that sum of money right now so I didn't actually order them, but maybe that person will chime in.
Basically, stock is expensive. Galfers are a bit more expensive, but supposedly higher quality.
There's an EBC part number for their pro-lite rotors, but various places I have emailed have told me they aren't available in the US yet or that they don't have them in stock. Unsure what the truth actually is.
IMPORTANT - if you order something, make sure you check the part numbers with the manufacturer's catalog. I think a lot of places have rotors sitting around that are a couple of years old, so they say "Speed Triple 05+" on the box or something similar. However, as you know they were changed for 08, so you need 08+ front rotors. The newer ones are offset differently, so rotors from the old Nissin brakes won't fit the Brembo brakes. Check part numbers.
I replaced my front rotors with some lightly used rotors bought from Imperialsportbikes on eBay. They usually are tearing down a few 1050 and 955 Speed Triples and have a wide selection of parts. They guarantee their stuff. I had a similar pulse from a warped rotor(s) and this was an affordable, easy fix. If I had the $$ though, I'd go with Galfer waves.
A new set of EBC HH pads will also feel great.
