Burning oil smell

Hi, I have a 2008 Speed Triple with 1900 miles on it. The bike is very clean, but pretty much every time I ride, I can smell something like burning oil coming from the bike once it's warmed up. I narrowed it down to the right, front of the bike just behind the radiator (somewhere in highlighted area). There is no oil residue I can see and have washed the bike and rinsed it to remove anything, but the smell comes back. The left side just smells like a new bike after riding. Thanks for any suggestions as to what this could be.

Clutch cable or turn signal wire routed badly and laying against the radiator maybe?

You might also check that radiator hose on that side....

Mine was loose and you could see where it was dripping on the header pipe on that side....

if it's loose you can reach in there and grab that hose and turn it with your hand, your pretty close mileage wise to me when I found ALL my hoses needed to be tightened up!

When you reach in there and grab that hose IF it's loose it will feel slick..Thats how i found out mine was loose ,I was installing turns and ran my hand across the hose....

Antifreeze smells sweet when Burning....

Check all your hoses anyway just to be safe Bro!

Thumbs up

Okay, I'll check it out and post back. Is there anywhere around there where oil could be leaking out? Thanks a lot for the suggestions I hope it's just tape or something.

This might be too obvious, but I wasn't used to a liquid-cooled bike so it was new to me, but the radiator stinks when it gets road grime on it especially when you're riding in the rain.

its sounds like cosmolene(sp). anti corrosion film added by the manufacture. Is smells for a while, 1900 miles is not enough to burn all of it off. then again my oil pan was loose and so was both side covers. you could have a small leak

I've only owned liquid cooled bikes, and I made sure the bike was clean when I started looking for the cause of the smell. Definitely a good starting point though, thanks. It could be the coating or maybe some tape getting hot or something. I looked around and haven't found any leaks, so I'm gonna stop worrying about it. Thanks again for all the suggestions

2800 miles and counting on my 09 speed 3 and I noticed a distinct odor as well. It seemed like something was burning. I have not been able to notice any smell at all in the last 400 or so miles. I chalked it up to the anti-corrosion treatment. However I did have a few coolant hoses a bit loose and even leaky!!!

Well that's 2 for the leaky coolant hoses. Guess I'll check em all just to be sure.
