Oil for the first 5000km

Hi - Just picked up my new SE S3. Reading around the forums most guys tend to run pure mineral oil for the first 5000km. I grabbed oil today so I can do an oil change at 100km and they sold me semi synthetic, this is the same stuff that is in it from factory I was told. Does this sound right ?

This is what I have been given:

Yes, that is right. Triumph Running in oil is semi-synth. Not Motul though, but Mobil Extra 4T 10W40.

I'm no oil guru, but isn't 3100 lower in the Motul line from 5100 semi-synthetic? Motul themselves don't call 3100 semi-synthetic, but rather technosynthese, whatever that means.

Mobil 1 4T Fully Synthetic is my choice

I've been using Mobil 1 4T fully synthetic on my 2007 S3 and K&N oil filter. But I'm switching the K&N oil filter to a mobil 1 oil filter on my next oil change

How do you guys manage to check the oil level with one person ?? I was trying to hold the bike perfectly upright and then with the other hand unscrew the dipstick - it wasn't very successful !

You do realize that you do not have to have the bike upright at the exact same moment as you take the stick out?

Pick the bike up -> put it back to sidestand -> take stick out.

Check the oil - Another method

1)
Quote:
Stop engine, then wait for at least 10 minutes for the oil to settle.
2) take a clean rag in left hand
3) sit on the bike
4) lift bike upright
5) reach down with the right hand
6) unscrew the dipstick
7) raise the dipstick to tank level
8) wipe dipstick
9) replace dipstick with right hand and screw it fully home
10) remove dipstick
11) raise dipstick to eye level.....

Do you see where this is going?

I think so...

So what you are saying - sit on the bike to check the oil.

Cool - thanks.

No, what they are saying is pick the bike up hold it centered, set it back down and check the level.
When you put up for a few seconds the dip stick will hold that level shown long enough to check it.
Don't make this harder than it needs to be.
