Any recomendations?

Got some tyre and road grime on the undersides of my off road cans and want to know whats best to get it off and bring them back to a nice shine.

Also whats best to take the gum off the tank left by the run in staicker. Was thinking white spirit or petrol, but don't want to ruin the paint.

Hey Smitty,

Good old WD40 or RP7 will do most of that. If the road grime is bad, wait till the pipes cool before using a good degreaser, then follow it up with the WD40 and let it soak. come back a little later and it should all come off.

For the sticker gum, soak it in WD40 and leave it a bit, then carefully with a soft cloth work the gum off. When it's gone, give it a nice polish with your favourite polish and it should be fine. Just don't leave the WD on any surface for too long.

Uses for WD40 is an interesting place.

Mick

Hey Smitty
Sticker gum can easily removed/cleaned either by carefully warm up the area (don’t burn the tank!) with a hot air fan(foehn?) and afterwards use a piece of quality tape to take off the gum (repeating this till it gets cleaned) or take a bit of petrol, because the painting has to be resistant about this.
Regards
Sy

I've found that kerosene works well for a number of things, including removing sticker gum and cleaning chains.

I used lighter fluid. Wipe on...wipe off.

Let me revise my last response...I tried getting the melted remnants of the sole of my wife's shoe off the cans, and "Goof-Off" worked much better than the kerosene!

A product call Goo Gone (http://www.magicamerican.com/products_gg.shtml) works very well for removing sticker residue and another product called Simichrome Polish (http://www.simichromepolish.com) does a good job of polishing chrome, aluminum and stainless steel parts.
