Hi,
I'm new to the S3. Today I tried to start the '02 but wound up cranking till the battery got weak. Eventually after many tries it did start, but that's no way to operate a motorcycle. So, has anayone else had the same problemo?
The bike was just serviced by the dealer in N. Hampton. Prior to that it didn't seem to have any difficulties starting??? I didn't ride the bike since the service because of rain (two weeks).
HELP.

if it happens again vlad i would take it back to the servicing dealer, but, it is worth keeping the battery on a trickle charge if you cant start it every couple of days, dont think triumphs like a weak battery!!!good luck.

This may or may not help, but it would have helped me...I bought a 2002 s3 in march - first few times, i started the bike, had a little trouble - why: keep hands off throttle until bike starts - speed triple's fuel injection system can handle start up on it's own.

so...turn key, pull in clutch, push start button. do NOT twist throttle.

Also I notice a problem on occasion after I've rolled the bike back a little bit, when I do that sometimes it takes a few tries and worrying cranking seconds to get it to kick over. Happened maybe a handful of times though so far.

Got my S3 in April. Within two weeks, I could not get it started, it fouled the plugs while trying to get it started. I have the S/S mufflers (dealer installed and remapped at time of installation). The dealer had to pick me and the bike up, I waited while a new mapping was downloaded. I have had no problems starting other than it takes 10 or more seconds to fire up when not up to temperature. I am not satisfied with this mapping. It too is rich. If I start driving and only two bars are showing on the gauge, it will stall if I have to stop at a light within a mile. Plus, its getting about 37 mpg and the muffler openings are black within 50 miles of riding. It reaks of raw gas while warming up. There is supposed to be another mapping. Check with your dealer. I thought of installing a K&N air filter but, it is not available yet. Once this is cured, it should run even quicker. Only drawback will be the exhaust pipes getting ugly a lot quicker. Hope this is helpful.
