2005 Spped Triple...

Does the oil drain plug have any kind of washer/seal on it or is it just the plug?

Changed my oil, have a slow leak...

Thanks

It should have a crush washer.

While we're on the subject... anyone know the torque-spec for the drain-plug?

Hey Jeffro, Though I don't have an 05 S3, I've yet to find a motorcycle or car of recent vintage that didn't use a drain plug gasket. If you weren't looking for it when you drained the oil, it likely dropped into your waste oil pan undetected. You may want to fish around in the waste oil with something, or screen it into another container. It would have been seen if it was still on the plug. My 01 S3 uses a fairly thick (3mm) gasket which appears to be made of aluminum (or alloy). The owners manual advises replacing said gasket at every oil change. Be careful only to snug the drain plug to the specified torque, or bad things can happen, as in the steel plug stripping out the threads of your oil pan. BTW my torque spec for the oil drain plug is 18 ft. lbs. / 25 nm...Best of Luck...Motocyco

Just before my bikes first service I had an oil leak from the drain plug. I tightened it up and went for service a few days later. They replaced the washer (or whatever it is) and I've not had a problem since.

Best of luck!

When I change my oil, I dry off the plug, and coat both sides of the washer with RTV, and tighten it down. No leaks since.

An old trick is to anneal the crush washer. You place it on a brick or something and heat it up real good with a propane or butane torch. This will allow the metal to crush again when you torque it down. You can do this time and time again and it will seal up nicely every time.

Plus it gives you something to do while while the oil is draining.
