I am hooking up my second headlight (previous owner disconnected it and customized it to fit one) and I have found the wires for the second lamp. There is a red/green and an additional black wire in the bundle. I looked at the wiring diagram and it identifies these as "position lamp" wires. The person who did the customization did some cutting and the wires dont match up. From the current headlight i dont see that the red/green and black wires go to anything. What exactly is a position lamp?

add on - I have found some information about position lamps and am thinking perhaps this is a euro thing, kinda like a running light maybe? If anyone knows for sure let me know.

I recently changed my original headlamps to adjure ice headlamps and love how they illuminate the road at night, plus they look much cleaner than the original lamps. As for the position lamps I just took the bulbs out and used electrical tape to seal them up. I believe they're part of the euro code similar to our DOT here in the states. Hope this helps out

Are you talking about the pilot lights? On the '03 if you turn ignition past the steering lock (all the way over to the left) it leaves the tail light on and the pilot lights on. I think the pilot lights were started by the Brits during WWII when they had mandatory blackouts due to the krauts bombing them at night. My '70 Bonneville has one and thought it was neat that the '03 had them too. Don't know if it is a British tradition that they still have them or some sort of a regulation that when parking the bike on the street they have to have the marker lights on.
