BST Carbon Fibre Wheels

Finally! I received the wheels last week and have them mounted on my Speedie.
  • Stock rear wheel ~ 14 lbs vs. BST ~ 4 lbs.
  • Front stock wheel ~ 11 lbs vs. BST ~ 6 lbs. (including hardware for mounting discs.)
In summary, the rotating mass of the wheels has gone from 25 to 10 lbs; a 60% reduction! (All weights without tires.)
The wheels have totally transformed the performance of the bike:
  • the brakes are much more effective, requiring less effort at the lever;
  • trail braking does not cause the bike to stand up as before;
  • turn-in is greatly improved; and,
  • most notably, the bike is far more nimble and can change its line on a dime.

Oh; and let's not forget that that THEY LOOK TOTALLY AWESOME!

Hmmm I wonder why triumph went with a heavier wheels on the 1050 because the rear 3 spoke 955 wheel feels much lighter than the front 5 spoke 1050.

Did you go with the 5.5" rear or 6"?

Looks sweet btw

The weights I quote are a result of using a digital bathroom scale and measuring the diference of my weight with and without me holding a wheel to my chest. Thus, I am sure the actual weights differ a little, but for comparison purposes it's good enough for now.

I went for the 6 inch rear; the 5.75 inch wheel was the old 5-spoke design, and was but ugly in comparison.

I have plenty of room between the pipe and the tire. My original fears of not having enough clearance were without merit. I don't think there is much of a difference in the actual tire width (that is, it appears to be less than 10 mm), and there is certainly no negative effects with the wider wheel as long as you size up on the tire accordingly (to a 17-190/55) to maintain proper tire pofile. I suppose the one exception is wider chicken strips.

I only have a couple of hundred miles on the new tires and rims. More to come this weekend.

Made in Africa . In fact they're manufactured about 10 km from where I'm sitting right now.

Anyway, congrats & I think they look particularly good on your black Speedy!

If you don't mind telling us, how much did they cost with shipping?

US$3,695 for the 7-spoke design. (Not cheap!)

But, and I am rationalizing now, if you compare the work that goes into hand-made carbon fiber wheels and the resulting performance vs. the work that goes into a full arrow system and its performance, you get more performance per dollar out of the wheels.

(That's my story and I'm sticking to it.)

The 5-spoke design are a little cheaper.

I saw some at a stand at the Phillip Island MotoGP. Pricing was ~AU$3500 so similar in the current dollar situation
