Ok, I know there are a lot of threads about this subject but none of them seem to aproach the issue from my angle.
I.E are new cans necessary?
I think the 05 S3 sounds awsome as it is. I realise, however, that nothing's so good it can't get better.
That's why I want some impressions from the ones amongst you that have replaced your stock cans with new ones.
Does it sound a lot better?

Granted the stock pipes sound reasonably good. But I wanted a bit louder and some more performance. After looking at the pipes that where available and doing alot of e-mails to these companys I arrived at Wolf pipes. One of my concerns was will the Triumph high mount map do any good with the Wolf pipes. I just got the bike back from the dealer with the new map and I'am floored by the improved performance. The tech said the map works very well.

It's worth it to me.

I will probably be doing the offroad cans in the next couple of weeks.

One question - with the new map, has it cleared up the 4k flat spot?

Stupid question here but my last bike had carburators.
That "map" thing you keep mentioning has to do with the fuel injection system and it's setup right?

MrEd,

the electronic fuel injection is controlled by the bikes' ECU which is basically a small computer. The "map" is simply the program within the computer which sets the air/fuel ratio at any particular rev range. The S3 has an O2 (oxygen) sensor in the exhaust which samples the exhaust gases and sends a signal to the ECU which is capable of adjusting the air/fuel ratio, to suit changes in the system up to 5%. A less restrictive set of cans will change the system more than the ECU can cope with so a new map or program is downloaded into the ECU. That is my fairly simplistic understanding of the situation, but I think it is fairly accurate.

Cheers.

Yeah that sounds about right. Thanks.
Just wanted to make sure I understood the "mapping" word correctly. More a language issue than a tech one really :-D
Guess I'll be getting me a couple of new cans then one of these days.

The power feels even all the way thru 6000 RPM's. I haven't gone any further because I'am still breaking in.
