Seat scratching tank ?

Hi,
I tried searching and didnt come up with anything so here goes.. I took the seat off to perform some routine cleaning and have noticed that where the seat rubs up against the tank it has rubbed / scratched the clearcoat quite badly. It looks wise it doesnt matter as its under where the seat touches the tank but its a bit concerning that it will eventually rub through to bare metal.........

Anyhow, is this something that is normal ? I clean the bike pretty much once every week so it definitely has not had prolonged dirty down between there. Its only a year old and still under warranty.

my 07 bike came with protective clear film on the tank by the seat. Try 3M paint protection film.

It happens to me too. Maybe the 07's have the protector because without it the seat would just rub all the way through the tank.

But yeah, some kinda film there would probably fix it, I just haven't cared enough to do anything about it.

The 08+ factory seat won't do that. But when you upgrade to Triumph's gel seat, it starts doing it. I just have a tank pad to cover that area.

Where did you hear that & why would it not affect the 08+? ....because my 08 with factory seat DOES scuff the paint (and like the OP, I keep my bike clean).

I always assumed that no matter how clean you think it is, the seat still touches the tank and any vibration will turn the seat material into a mild sandpaper Anyhow, at least it is covered up but still irritating.

+1^^ my 09 factory & gel seats are rubbing paint as well. I cleaned the tank up and put a clear tank pad on and that seems to be keeping anything from rubbing.
