2008 ecu
Will the ecu from a 2008 speed triple work on a 2006 speed triple?
What all would be required?
With the mapping that would be on the 08 ecu, would that change the 06 engine to be the same as an 08?
I have seen a couple of used 08 ecu's for sale, and was wondering if this would update my 06.
thanks

No.

At least the newer model's crankshaft position sensor + rotor as the newer has more teeth. I am also not quite sure the older gauge cluster is compatible with the newer ECU.

Why would you want to change your bike to the later and more emission restricted form?

The newer ECU does not unleash any major extra HP. You are much better off with the v1 Keihin ECU + TuneBoy. The first generation ECU is much easier to tune with TuneBoy than the newer one. Also many more downloadable tunes available for v1 ECU.

I read that the new ecu allowed easier starting, better fuel mileage,
smother acceleration, and higher horsepower.
Are you saying that the tuneboy can do the same?

My dealership fried the ECU on my 2007 when uploading the TORS map. They didn't have another on hand so they took one out of a 2008 on the dealership floor, installed it in my bike and uploaded the map. 9000 miles later, everything works great.

Reader's Digest can tell anything. So can tell this internet. New isn't better. That fuel mileage might be a little better... and one thing. In 06 is even totally different main pin connector model in the ECU/ECM-box so 06 and 09 are NOT straight compatible. So Martin R remembers right. Once again.
I miss that older model with it's smooth power delivery. This new model feels in stock all the time like having a little lean fuel delivery. So I understand these Tuneboy-buyers...

Late model 07 bikes have the v2 Keihin ECU already, that explains why it was a straight swap for you and only the ECU program needed changing. This does not apply to v1 Keihin (05 to early 07) bikes.

That is true, but I would not worry about it too much.

These are more tuning issues than actual ECU hardware related.

Yes, a TuneBoy tuned 05 bike will have noticeably more grunt than a stock 09 bike.
In stock form I would say the 09 is weaker in low revs than a 05.

I agree. When I got my 2009 I swear it felt significantly less powerful. I was weirded out at first. I attributed it to the fact it was new, needed to be broken in. Well thousands of miles later it still didn't feel as grunty as my previous S3. Then I remapped it, did some exhaust/pre-cat, header stuff to it and it's right back to where it should be.....a beast!

Will using the Tuneboy fix the starting problem with the 06?
You know, the long cranking time and stumbling until it warms up?
Thanks
