Cool Speed or Street?

I know this has been covered before, but I couldn't find it.

They look pretty close in size, speed a little bigger. The Speed has a much bigger engine and a single sided swing arm. Did any of you consider the Street and why did you pick the Speed?

Thanks, I'm coming from a Bonneville, for reference.

I looked at both. Liked the Speed better for several reasons. One was seat height, another was the swing-arm. Felt I was ready for a bigger motor than the 600 I'd been riding. I also got a really good deal as mine was an '08 that had been sitting for a year. Price was what put it over the top, though. I do like that grey the Street R comes in.

Red face Wow this has really been covered

You know when you're checking out an entry and there are suggestions for other threads at the bottom of the page - yeah, there's a ton of other threads. Sorry.

spped ot street

Gday mate

I jus got a speed anniversary model. I liked the street triple R (always get good reviews) but i liked the fact the speed was alittle bigger, the swingarm looks hot and i couldnt go past the ltd edition model. You cant go wrong with either but im guessing you could pick up a low mile speed for the price of a street

The Street didn't exist when I bought my Speed, but I wouldn't buy a Street for several reasons.

The main reason being that there's no adjustment on the Street Triples levers and I have short fat fingers.

depends if your a girl or not?

Seriously, the street is a cheaper version of the Speed. Its a fantastic bike, esp when looking at the price. It does everything so effortlessly... I had it on 1 wheel after about 200meters of riding, so it still has the fun factor. The chassis is great too....

But the speedy is just plain angry.... so it brings even bigger smiles.

If your going to commute at all... get the street. (but get the R, as the std Street brakes are not fantastic). If you want to go nuts on the weekend... get the speed. You wont go wrong either way.

I got the Speed as the Street is a diddy little thing compared to the big comfy Speed! I commute and do the odd fast road ride on my Speed, and while maybe not as economical as the Street, it's certainly easy to ride slow or fast. It is so easy to work on too, having the single sided swingarm made for my easiest chain and sprocket change on a bike ever!

Speed or Street / Hmmmmmm

Speed does it for me all round, tried the Street & its a nippy little sod but sorry I cant turn my back on the Speed for its shear guts n go
So if you want a Nipper get the Street, want Ripper get the Speed
Often wondered what the Speed handling would be like with the drive going through a double sided swing arm vs the single, which gives the odd twitch now n again.
Still its a great bike

ill throw another vote for a Speed...

I moved from a Sprint ST and seriously looked at both.

for my height. At 6'3 the street seemed like the bars were under my chin. but i only found that after a test ride. the bike is narrow and small with still a decient amount of power.

but. coming off a Sprint i found it too small and cramped (get a test ride of both to help you decide)

Speed it was for me great fun for commuting and that little extra dose of agression. Speed was the most well rounded bike that ticked all the boxes for me when looking to purchase.

Thumbs up

Gene-O,
I test rode the Street Triple before buying a new Speed Triple in July 2007.
I was well impressed by the Street, but at the time I was getting rid of a BMW Boxer Cup and didnt get the Street for two reasons, firstly I wasnt sure if I could live with the smaller engine ( dropping down from 1100cc ).
But the main one was that I would have had to wait until Nov to get one.
Having said all that, I love my Speed Triple and know 100% that I made the right choice, after 8.5k miles it still puts a big grin on my face.
