Occasional noise on acceleration

Hey Guys

I have an 07S3 and I have started to notice a strange noise when I get on the throttle. I will be cruising at 3-4k RPM right when I hit the throttle there is a kind of rattle or ticking that seems to come from the engine. It doesn't happen every time, and is subtle and goes away very quickly; less then a second, but it is there. I am at 5k miles and about to take it in to for the 6k service (after I check and make sure it is not something I can handle myself.) Does anyone have any thoughts? This is one of those things I know will never happen when I have a tech looking at it.

Thanks for any help.

Funny, I thought I've heard the same thing, but then I can almost never reproduce it when I'm trying to figure it out. 2007 also, BTW.

Very seriously I suggest good earplugs. I didn't wear mine for a short hop yesterday and was horrified by the noises.
Ahhhh, silent bliss....

Also seriously, it may detonating slightly, that's kind of low in the rpm range to whack the throttle open above maybe 2nd gear...try a tankful or 2 of the next octane level up ( you should be running 89 now ) and see if it goes away.

If I am at too low an rpm when I crack the throttle, I'll get a noise that sounds like I'm lugging it. I downshift a gear and the noise goes away. Try that, plus earplugs work wonders, as JM said.

Yes, me too.

I have the same thing with my 09, its been doing it since it was run it, so it probably isn`t terminal. I`ve owned several 1050`s so its easy to notice an unusual noise. The bike only has 8000km`s on it and there is a metallic rattle under load from 4500 rpm onwards, it seems worse with a pillion. It`s nothing like pinking or pinging, more like a camchain or noisy valve rattle. If it happened all the way through the rev range I would have said it was a dead cert slack camchain, but thats not the case. I took it to the Dealers, they test rode it and agreed that there was a strange noise but had no idea what was wrong. They rang Triumph Australia who have logged it as a fault but have not heard of this problem either. The dealer has agreed to pull the top end end off at the 10,000 km service, to investigate further.

Same as welshrob with my 08. There was a post here a while ago where a few others reported the same issue, I'll see if I can find it.

This is the first Triumph I've owned and as there were others with the same issue I wasn't too concerned. I'd prefer it didn't do it but its not a Jap sewing machine so I expected some noise

I hear the same noise on hard launches or sudden throttle input. It sounds like a loose chain. I just tell myself it ain't a Honda!

I also get this on my 09 S3. Only happens when on the throttle and will disappear instantly when i throttle off or pull in the clutch. Can be heard very easily if i ride next to a solid surface or if i open my legs.
