Ooooh, Pirelli Angel ST

Saw one at dealership. Googled it ,and if you put aside the gimmicky angel/devil tread wear pattern, the Pirelli Angel ST has set an endurance record mated to a pro rider on a Hayabusa. Grip and road feel are an improvement on the already good Diablo Strada from the few forums posts.

Anyway, just throwing another tire/tyre option into the "which tire is best for my S3?" ring.

"On March 15th, fifteen international journalists along with twelve of Pirelli's own testing staff set the FIM-certified 24-hour World Duration Record aboard a 2009 Suzuki Hayabusa fitted with Pirelli's new Angel ST, covering a distance of 5135.071 km (3190.8 mi) at an average speed of 213.96 km/h (132.9 mph), a real-world mileage equivalent of 12,000 km (7,500 mi) at normal speeds of 80-100 km/h (50-65 mph). Each participant to the record setting rode for duration of half of an hour (20 min + technical time) during the 24-hour period, making it quite a memorable celebration of the new Angel ST."

Couldn't help myself. I snagged up the lone 180/55 Angel ST. The parts manager paused. "Do you know what you're buying?"

He was surprised I'd get an "unproven" tire. He knew about the Pirelli test but reminded me no local rider had any real time to give feedback.

Price was good. $169. I believe motorcycle superstore has them for $150 shipped! But like many of you I prefer to support the local guy: get it right then and there, and don't have to deal with the uncomfortable conversation of where you got the tire.....as they're mounting and balancing it just feet away from their own stack of rubber.

Anyway, I'll get it up and running today. Replaces the stock M3. I'll fiddle with some diff psi. And, yes, I did leave the front M3 on. It'll be safe and good for a few more thousands miles.
