I just followed the sticker on the tank (my fave sticker ever! ) and rode as much as I could the first few weeks. Didn't take long to get to 500 miles and the first oil change. But I wasn't in a hurry, either.

There is a method of doing it using a dyno, which I'm told only takes about 45 minutes. Don't have it handy, but I believe it's outlined in Kevin Cameron's book "Sportbike Performance Handbook." I know a few racers who've used it on built engines and several street riders who swear by the dyno method. Might be worth it if you're really in hurry.

Modern engines are way better than when I first started 25 years ago but rule of thumb is just keep the revs in control not too high and vary them. Run it through the gears up and down normally but don't run long distance at a constant RPM. Moderate city riding is great up and down the revs and gears.

I'm currently in the process of breaking-in my new speedy. I'm following the advice of the handbook and the sticker on the tank. Varying the engine speed a lot! Lots of engine braking. Trying to go thru all the gears. No full throttle! Living in the big city makes this an easy task!

Aggressive use of throttle up to 8000 rpm (peak torque rpm).
Coast downs.
Heat cycles.
FREQUENT oil changes.

Ride it like you stole it and change the oil like you own it...
