I just picked up a '99 S3. I was going through everything yesterday prepping it for my first real ride on it. I had new tires put on earlier this week (went with the Dunlop 208s). I flushed the coolant, which was really rusty and disgusting. I definitely see a replacement radiator in my future... I put on new brake pads all around and bled the lines. I changed the oil and filter.

The last step was going to be replacing the air filter & spark plugs. When I removed the fuel lines, the lower fitting on the tank was seeping gas pretty badly. I tried pressing the inner quickrelease valve in and out with a screwdriver a few times to see if I could get it to seal, but no luck. I didn't have time to plug it with something and move on, so I haven't done the filter and plugs yet.

Has anybody had this problem with these valves? Know of an easy way to resolve it? I guess I'll see about ordering a replacement part, it it's not too difficult to replace it, but I'm going to have to drain the tank to do it if I can't find a way to repair the valve.

I also found that the male fittings haven't been replaced under the recall, so I'll have to do that as well.

Anyway, I'm off this morning for my first big ride on the Triple! Gonna have to take it easy on the new brakes & tires, but I can't wait to get some seat time on this thing!

Check the o-rings to see if they possibly got cut. I took a small chunk out of one of mine the last time I took my tank off and had to replace it because the fuel just kept dribbling out of the connection. Otherwise, if you've still got the old plastic connections, replace with metal as the recall suggests.

I would get the all metall fuel fittings from either Colder Products, or www.rideteamtroumph.com
Swapping the fuel fittings is very easy. I would replace the rubber gasket on the plate to tank junction while I had the tank off. Good luck

+1 on the metal fuel fittings. If your a do it yourselfer like most of us, they'll pay for themselves as the plastic females are prone to snapping like twigs. I got my chrome plated brass female fittings at my dealership for approx $20 each [which turned out to be only $5 more than replacement plastic ones].

Thanks for the input. I'll definitely see about picking up the metal fittings. Sounds like they're pretty easy to install.
