I used to own a tuono and after a year away from road bikes was looking for another one but felt I should at least try the triple first and took a test drive on an '05 s3 yesterday. I don't have to tell you all how great the bike was, but then so was my tuono.
Could anyone who has spent some time with both bikes offer further insight as to wht they would chose one over the other.
Regards
Alan

i think you might get a biased opinion on this site.

i would go for the triple as it is smoother through the rev range and not as liable to give you a scare if you give it just to much out of the corners.
its probably easier to live with in town as well and i think the tuono is butt ugly.

the tuono is the better track bike and the deals you can get on the factory version are brill at the moment.

test ride both again if you can and let your heart decide as i think you have to like the package as a whole

How would you evaluate the two of them, Alan?

Those of us who have the Triple but have been toying with the thought of a Tuono (in addition to, rather than in place of, I hasten to add) would be interested in knowing your thoughts.

I've always liked the sound of them, and even the styling; but giving up any of my Triumphs is not an option, so I'd need some seriously good reasons for wanting one before I ever visit the dealer and maybe undertake the financial cost of yet another bike. (My sales resistance is very low when it comes to motorcycles!)

It's definately a better track bike?
Based on what?

My buddy just got an 05 tuono, pipe, eprom, smaller front sprocket and airbox mod.
We finally got a chance to ride together a couple weeks ago, my bike was still bone stock and I was able to put 5 to 10 bikelengths on him every time we got on it, it wasnt even close.
Handling differences were more subtle, but we agreed the triple carries it's weight much lower and has a much more planted feel to the front end and still flicked from peg to peg easier with greater stability.

I've raced on most of the tracks in the southeast, and there's no question I'd go faster on the triple than the tuono at any of them.

I didn't own a Tuono, but I owned 3 RSV Milles which have nearly the same specification as a Tuono.
The Aprilia's have a much better handling on the track (stability is better) and also the torque feels much higher than the S3. But the S3 feels much smoother and with less vibrations than the twin at lower and middle revs.
The S3 have nicer "smoother" looks than the Tuono, especially around the motor because of less plastics, but this is my opinion.

Good luck with making the right decision!

Well if you havent already seen it BIKE magazine has a comparison test this month with the Speed Triple, KTM SuperDuke, Aprillia Tuono and Kwak Z1000. May be of some help. The 05 Speed Triple came out on top just, over the KTM. At worst the review may just stick another bike into the equation. :???:

Three weeks ago i was able to swap between the two on a run over to a friends house a few miles away. Loved the Tuono but preferred the smoothness and seating position of my S3. I found the Tuono had a riding position which had my knees to close to my chin for comfort. Before i plumped for the S3 though i toyed seriously with the Falco, but decided the slightly higher insurance group and the way more expensive spares and servicing costs counted against it. If or whenever i get my ass into gear and settle my finances i'd still go for a Falco over a Tuono though....As a 3rd bike....... :hammer:
