Has anyone changed sprockets yet? I have heard that the old bikes have the speedo coming off the front wheel. I don't think the 2005 is this way. Is there a work around for this. I saw a used set of sprockets, and chain for a 2005 S3 on ebay...so someone has done it : .

We run 18 and 42 stock, what has anyone done different?

Any info anyone has would be awesome.

I did it, a 520 conversion from AFAM, only went up 1 in the rear to 18/43 right now and had to order a 44t from UK and have it shipped over here, it hasnt arrived yet.
Before I install the 44t I want to get rid of my stock cans and have the dealer load their offroad map to see what effect that will have.
I rode with a friend on a tricked out hayabusa the other night that makes about 210hp to the wheel, carbon wheels, gas tank, the whole deal, anyway we were wicking it up every chance we got and he couldnt get by me until 150mph and above.
Of course after that he would take the paint off my tank as he went by but thats expected, he was amazed, but intends to order a K1200R this month as he is from hamburg :razz:
Said he couldnt believe how fast the triple was.

Yes, it felt like a 20% improvement in torque multiplication, shortened first gear up a bit, I'm hoping the pipes and map will improve things a bit more so I can stay with this gearing, if not the 44t is waiting in the wings.

Just FYI - I made a trip out to Wyoming on mine, and tested the speedo on a stock setup versus my GPS. The speedo is about 2-3mph off from 40mph to about 70mph - then is about 5mph until 100. Much better than the Jap bikes I have had in the past, which were consitently 10% off.

Does changing sprockets have on effect on the speedo error on a '05 S3? Is the speed sensor driven from the gearbox or front wheel and whereabouts on the bike would I find the actual sensor if I was to install a speedohealer?

Also are the '04 and '05 S3 rear sprockets interchangeable?

I tried the 43 tooth rear also. Hard to say if the ride actually was that much different than with the stock 42.

The bike may rev a little more eagerly, but it is really hard to say. May just be placebo also.

At least my 5000 km run chain has plenty of room for bigger rear sprockets, if someone else is thinking about sprocket changes. I would say it will fit a 44 or 45 tooth sprocket easily and the single sided swingarm makes sprocket changes very easy as you do not have to have a stand or take the wheel off.

Also it seems that sprockets from older single sided bikes will fit. The one I ordered from JT sprockets for an older Triple fit fine, although it did not have the nice hole pattern of the stock '05 sprocket.

Omega, have you given the 44 a go?

A few pointers I got from RickL of the Rocket forum (R3 has the same sensor), if anyone else is thinking about installing a Speedohealer to correct their speedo reading after sprocket changes.

The sensor is located just above the front sprocket and has three wires coming from it: b/w, orange and pink.
b/w = ground
orange = power
pink = signal

As far as Speedohealer comes, it seems to do exactly what it says. It adjusts the speedo reading by a -/+ percentage you specify. Now I just have to find someone with a GPS to get a more accurate reference than my hand timing.

The timed odo-speedo error using Speedohealer's test function on a stock geared S3 is 5.5%@135km/h and 6.3%@270km/h, which seems to correlate pretty well with crudmop's findings.
