Hi,
Just wondering what the tall owners of the new S3 think about the riding position. I have recently sold my '04 MV Brutale as it was too cramped between the pegs and the tank (especially with the MV tank design) adjustable rear sets may have fixed the problem but the lack of low down power and revvy engine also left me disappointed.
Any S3 owners ridden/owned an MV and what did you think?
Is the S3 a screamer on the road(what RPM@ 60MPH)?
I'm 6'2" and 90kg.

I have been looking at a Tiger to replace my old Yamaha but the new S3 has really caught my eye.

Thanks.

I am 6'1" and 205 pounds (93kg) with a 34 inch inseam - fairly long legs. I do not find my 2005 S3 cramped. It is not a tourer, but is more comfortable than I expected for a sports frame layout.

This bike is addicting, and I can't really say why. It just begs to be riden. I have had faster, better handling, and more comfortable bikes - just not one that seems to fit so well and that is such a pleasure to ride. A smile is permanently on my face while I ride.

I hope this helps.

I am 6'3" and 240lbs, and I find the seating position fine. I will be using the bike for all types of riding including touring. The S3 looks small but that I think is just because of the stubby rear. I haven't ridden a brutale but I have sat on one and it felt tiny.

The S3 is not a screamer - 3500rpm at 60mph. You will not be disappointed with the low down grunt, it has 95% of maximum torque at 3000rpm.

I agree with DVS2XS, the S3 will put a smile on your face. I think it handles as well as anything else I have owned.

A friend of mine who is 6 foot 4 and has freakishly long legs tried my 05. He reported it comfortable, and very few bikes fit him at all. It's a tall bike to begin with, and the controls are high and fairly far back. It's surprisingly comfortable.

The 2005 Speed Triple is definitely not a screamer. You can ride around all day in 6th gear if you want. Or my favorite gear is 3rd. Put it in 3rd gear and anything from 20mph to 120mph pulls hard.

Perhaps that's an exaggeration, but this thing's horsepower and torque curve really is as flat as anything on two wheels.

You wont have a problem, the pegs arent high but they are set way back, putting you in a perfect fighting stance to do what this bike does best, it's hard to explain, it just feels perfect.
As for the screamer part, yes it has a monster low end and midrange, but the real power is above 8k, ride the bike in that last 2500rpm range between 8k and 10,500k and you'll soon change your tune about screamers.
It gets ferocious up there.

I'm 6'4", 200 lbs, 34" inseam and enjoy long walks on the beach, poetry... Just kidding!!! I find the '05 S3 very comfortable compared to most "sports" bikes. The seat to bar ratio is about perfect. Seat to pegs is tighter by comparison but the angle/bend of my legs is pretty comfortable. The seat sucks though, but will be easily improved by the aftermarket. With a better seat (stock is too soft with no support) the bike could easily provide all day comfort.

It is much more comfortable than my speed 4. Buy it you will love it. I have an FJR but ride the S3 for pure fun and pleasure. Long distances FJR is more practical.

Thanks for the info, going to have to get a demo ride if they haven't all gone. Tenere may have to stay for the touring and an S3 for hooning.
As a comparison the MV was geared for about 6000rpm at 60MPH/100kph this gave me the ****s on any ride over 20 minutes. I changed the gearing to the same as the standard F4 which dropped about 800rpm off the cruising speed but as was expected throttle performance suffered. MV will put their bigger engine in this bike but the price premium makes the S3 all the more attractive.
By the way what are insurance premiums like?
The Mv was $1300 a year for a 33 year old, no finance and clean license.
