After lurking on the board for a year, I figure it is time to post my .02:

I brought the Scorched Yellow '05 Triple home finally. Factory "race" cans and map, seat cover, and black radiator mounts - still waiting on the flyscreen. The carbon tank protector would not stick. Well, not exactly true, the adhesive sticks to the tank, just not to the carbon.

The "race cans" have more of a deeper, more mellow sound than the stock cans I have heard - not what I would consider loud. Nice sounding engine - got to love triples!

After a couple coats of Zaino, the color is still definately more gold than yellow, but as much as I like the black ones, I like this better.

The gear box will take some getting used to, I hope it seats in better with use.

Very broad torque band. The torque available down low is surprising. Time will tell what is available above 8000 rpm.

The ride is firm and the handling is responsive - very nice and even better than I expected. I will have to dial it in for my 200+ pounds and riding style.

The mirrors have a great view of my elbows, THAT will need to be changed.

I hope to pull the tank, side panels, and front fender off soon to pull molds and reproduce in carbon. Just to be different, and I have some experience with making molds.

Looking for another 1050 engine to modify, and stock wheels to polish/chrome. Let me know if you hear of an '05 S3 or Sprint being wrecked.

Are there any updates on a Power Commander or someone cracking the code on the ECU yet? I don't really want to pull the Motec ECU out of the drag boat to use on the bike, but I'm considering it.

By the way, the Triumph Raptor Jacket is perfect for riding in the heat and humidity, even in the Heart of Dixie. Good protection at a good price AND it doesn't take years to break in like my perforated Vinson leathers.

Sounds like we have a lot of the same thoughts, I'll be moving to athens ga next month so maybe we can make it a joint project of sorts, there's a ton of power lurking in this 1050 motor, all I've done to mine is a 520 conversion and 1 tooth up on the rear sprocket and from zero to 150mph I can hang with pretty much anything.
I'm thinking of sending off the crank to falicon for lightening and balancing and removal of the counterbalancer, balancing the stock rods to within a 10th, checking the wall thickness to determine if a bigger piston would work, then moving on to the head, I'll bet there's 15hp in there alone, a serdi cut 5 angle valve job up top, sealed to perfection, maybe open up the airbox, keep compression around 12:1, and figure out something to do with the exhaust and ECM remapping as you said.
Supposedly dobeck has his box ready for it now, it's not precise but will get the fuel to it where it needs it.

Your gonna love this bike.

I am getting addicted to riding this bike. It gets more smiles to the mile than anything I have ever owned.

Omega - It looks like we have a lot of the same plans. Let me know when you get settled in to Athens.

What? No turbo? :-D

Supposedly some jerk in Calivornia already has done it. I'm just wondering why he isn't dead.

Turbos are fun but their for straightline bikes, this aint no straightline bike, I would want to preserve the character of the motor as it is now, just improve overall effiiency everywhere but never at the expense of reliability.
The wall thickness thing also interests me because there's some really good pistons made now that would really outperform the stock slugs.
Another huge issue is also ECM related, how to get that rev limiter ceiling raised above 10,500K where I believe it is now.
The power is still very much building when that ***** thing pulls the plug, which is why I had so much trouble staying off the thing for the first couple weeks, especially in the lower gears your there in a second.
The company I have the most influence with for pipes is M4, the first step is convincing them that a full system with real gains will sell like crazy and all the accolades the bike is recieving.
The next step will be getting an 05 triple over to their building in texas for the development.
I'll try to tackle step one next week.

I was being facetious about the turbo, simply because you mentioned everything else that could be done but left out the "T" word.

You are correct that a turbo bike is a straight line racer, but that's what I do. That is, when I race which isn't often. I'm getting old and road racing scares me.

However, due to the super flat torque curve on this engine and the linear power delivery it would be a sweetie of a base for a turbo. I'd love to talk to the guy that did it and see if it's power band stayed useable. I suspect it did.
