Whilst on me travels I was taking the BlackBall ferry to Port Angeles and this poor lad was getting off the boat and got pulled over for inspection! Anyone recognize em'?

Yeah, thats me. They kept me there for about 45 mins or so. Note to self, never answer with a compass direction when asked by customs where you are going. It seems "North" isn't an acceptable answer to an inquirey of where you might be going... LOL

I might be packing too heavy but hell, I've covered almost 8k miles so far. Just stopped in Jackson Hole for gas and a sandwich and saw this. Well, back on the road. Cheers.

EDIT: heres the photos form the trip so far:

Good pix. Sorry about the low side... how'd it happen? Do you think the weight and height of the luggage on the bike contributed to your mishap?

And is that a Bags Connection Racepack or Speedpack I see on the back of your bike?
How do you like it?

Enjoy the bike ride!

That is a Racepack (BagsConnection)

The lowside was a result of a broken piston ring that either stalled the engine or locked the back wheel up. No idea why (12 miles on the engine, synthetic chenged every 2-3k miles.., no way it was low on oil..) The starter was also almost dead and Triumph felt the repeated starting attempts were reducing the cylinder lubrication (dunno, that sounds goofy, but two of the three cylinders did fail leak down miserably after the event and the third was marginal)

Luckily I was only going 20 mph and there was 3 DAYS left on the warrantee. It left me sitting in Scottsdale for three weeks waiting on pistons tho...

over delayed reply to final thoughts on this trip.

Ok, I somehow found this thread again. Wanted to update a few people on the issue of the accident versus the heavily packed bike>

This bike handled EXTREMELY well with all this luggage on it (huge lean angle pacific coast highway hairpins, high speed sweepers in British Columbia, successful passage of very rough construction roads near Yosemite, etc..)

The crash was due to the back wheel locking up (engine stalled) due to a cracked piston ring) I was going 10mph downhill on frosty early morning pavement near Sedona. (high altitude)

Anyway, just wanted to reassure everyone you CAN load up a sport bike and still ride it aggressively. Summary of the trip:

Start Date: June 2nd

End Date: Aug 9th

Miles Traveled: 10,132

Days spent riding in the rain: 5

Animals Hit: 1 (A snake. Grazed one bird and one fawn and millions of bugs dead too)

States/Provinces: 12

National Parks: 8

Events Attended: 1 (Laguna Seca MotoGP)

Books read: 15 (Most notable: The Brothers K, The Daily Adventures of Mixerman, Ghost Rider: Travels on the Healing Road, The Secret History of the World)

Mechanical failures: 1 (actually 3 all at once..)

Down time for parts: 3 weeks (all at once)

Friends/Family seen: 9

People met I wish I could see more of: 3

Days spent camping: 10 (yeah, I got tired of bugs and lack of showers pretty fast)

Days spent in a cabin: 5

My favorite places: Yosemite, Tofino B.C., Nelson, B.C., Sedona, Florence OR, Divide CO.
