hi people i just took my triple to the dealership as it was leaking coolant from the breather tube beneath the engine.

the cause of this is that when you put the bike on the side stand the coolant runs to the left of the container under the seat and it just so happens that the overflow pipe on the container is "yes you guessed it" on the left.

if only triumph had designed it with any thought and put it on the right this problem wouldnt occur.

it means my coolant level is always on the bare minimium level.

i will be continuing to harass my dealer and triumph till they sort this out. please feel free to do the same and maybe we can get this sorted out.

hi hanger

can you check for me if the pipe and filler cap are also on the left (as you stand behind bike) of the reserve bottle under your seat.

and how full is the bottle?

I think one additional cause for leaking coolant is also the fact that the cooling fan will not run while the bike is off.

Run the bike hot -> turn it off -> for a while the engine will be much hotter than it ever would while running and some of the coolant will find it's way to the expansion tank.

But yes, you cannot fill the expansion tank even half way, or the excess coolant will be dumped on your first stop. I too thought I was running a bit low on coolant and filled her halfway between min/max and stopped for an icecream only to watch a hot steaming puddle of coolant form under the engine.

Anyway, is this really an issue? If your engine is not overheating and you have enough coolant that some of it will show up in the expansion tank what does it matter?

its £7700 bike thats under waranty and the coolant is rather slick. when you pull over and it leaks then ride off you will be coating the back wheel.
i think triumph should have tested the bike enough to spot this error.
i for one would like this fixed for me under waranty as i dont want coolant on my rear tyre when im ploughing round country lanes as it could be dangerous.

I've got the same issue, but as long as the engine isn't overheating I don't really care having the coolant at a low level...
My Hornet did the same thing and I never had a serious problem with it...
