Picked up new 05 last Wednesday.
Have done 800 miles over the past 7 days, including a trip to the Isle of Man.
All good so far.

But as I went to leave work tonight, the oil light stayed on.

First service was done yesterday, the oil level is fine.
(just to check, the oil level is checked on the dipstick when the stick is pushed in to the stop, NOT screwed fully in right?)

But the light is on.

I'm hoping it's just the pressure switch stuck.

Anyone else had this?

Check the switch contact wire is still on the switch and not shorting, mine fell off loose and the light went off all the time ,its just behind the cylinder on the right hand of bike a large rubber boot over it for one wire.hope this helps good luck. :-D To test the switch pull spade connector off and light will go out.indicating a faulty switch, still warranted right enough so take it back just in case asap.Thats if the 05 is the same as older models?

Yup, done that, the light goes out when the wire is removed, but surely that doesn't indicate a faulty switch as such?

That just indicates that either there is no oil pressure, or the switch is faulty...

Needless to say, i've not ridden it since this happened.

It will be back at the dealer tomorrow.

I have the same problem at the moment. Engine runs fine but the light is on. I think that the oil pressure switch is broken. I called the dealer yesterday and they are going to replace the switch before they do anything else.

Let me know what happens with your bike.

It's in the dealers waiting for a pressure switch.
I'll let you know.

I had this over the weekend, done 700 miles. Checked switch and cleaned it with WD40 seems to be ok at the moment but I have not had time to run it.
Will take it out tomorrow to check. I feel it is definately the switch as no obvious oil leaks or running problems if it persists its back to the dealer.
BTW if you disconect the switch the light will go out so that will tell you nothing as you have cut the circuit.

I think disconnecting the wire does show something it shows your pressure switch is closed ,operated jammed or whatever.ie closed circuit!!!!it is only a single wire to it, all it does is short to earth via a resistor activating the warning light! :-D

Well the above is just plain wrong. If you disconnect the wire and the light stays on you know that the faulty part is in the connecting wire/electronics and not the switch itself.

If the light goes out when you disconnect the wire, it tells you nothing about the operational state of the switch, it just tells you that the switch is on. And the switch might be on for a good reason.

That aside, I seem to have the '05 S3 switch bug also or water in the electrics. The light came on a while after I washed my bike. It seems that the light comes on at around 2000 revs/min or above.

If there really was a problem with the oil circulation shouldn't the light be on at lower revs and go out at higher when the pressure increases? Mine seems to work backwards and comes on at higher revs.

Is something really wrong with the engine? Oil level is fine and the engine is running smoothly with no noises or such (although I have not really ridden the bike after this just to be safe).

Edit. How did the problem resolve for you guys who had the light on? Was it just a faulty switch?

Sorry, to clarify above i should have added with ignition on pull wire off pressure switch, oil light should go off, then short wire using crankcase to earth, oil light should come on proving circuit and proving the switch is faulty.Hope this clarifies it :-D :-D
ps if this is wrong then so is the haynes manual!!!!!! :-D
