What's the best way to remove the unsightly reflectors beneath the tail section on the '02-'04 model Speed Triple? I was hoping I could just snip off the head of the rivets but I can't seem to get a grip on them.

Any suggestions?....hoping to not have to remove the tail section.

Thanks,

Frank

I got rid of mine on the first day I got my bike. I drilled out the little rivets and plugged the holes with the cool little plastic plugs I found at the hardware store, looks factory.

Frank too.

I also did the same but I used a hairdryer to help warm up the plastic and then slid a very small screwdriver beneath to pop them off. After I plugged them with small auto rivets and saved the front reflector mounts on the front wheel for future use. I cut a small piece of stainless steel and bolted it to the front right mount and made a nice inspection sticker holder so I wouldn't have to stick it on my fork leg, very messy and not clean looking at all..

so did you not drill at all??? You just pryed the rivets out by wedging a small screwdriver under the metal that mounts the reflector?

I've been tempted to just dremel them off. Have to go have a look at the bike because I don't understand why you guys would be plugging the holes??? They aren't visible from anywhere but under the bike are they?

My mock-up might be a bit too ratty for some people's taste, but it seriously cleaned up the undertail and gave me basically 4x the storage space after all was said and done. Hell, I can fit a large can of Honda general purpose cleaner, a large can of Motul chain cleaner, a large can of chain lube, 2 compact med kits, 5 crappy white rags for cleaning the chain and plastics, a roll of microfiber cloths for cleaning my screens and buddies face screens as well since they can only fit basically a cell phone or credit card in their undertails, lol. On top of all that, I can fit my leatherman wave tool w bit attachment kit and my Triumph factory tool kit with a few zip-lock bags to boot, lol!

I'm quite happy with the touring capabilities of my bike with all that space and the centerstand. You just can't beat being prepared and having the stuff to cover your butt and having people do double takes when I keep pulling stuff out of my hatch after removing the seat cowl, lol.

I think it looks pretty mean and clean (though a bit dirty and rough around the edges).

I'll get around to making a cleaner kit sometime this summer...

kuhlka.....you forgot to mention the Kitchen Sink...cause it sounds like you got everything else in there...lol

That's awesome though...I could use some extra storage for sure!

I guess for the reflectors, I'll try drilling out the rivets...although for now I'm more concerned with correcting the exhaust leak that has arisen due the the installation of my Triumph CF High Mount :hammer: ......but I love the sound! :-D

A drill or a hand grinder is my tool of choice for the reflectors. The front fender reflectors came off really easily. The rears I just chopped off completely when I chopped my undertail over the winter.

I've got a small exhaust leak as well, but I can hardly hear it so I haven't messed with fixing it. That high temp goo is probably the way to go to fix it as well as a good strong pipe clamp.
