I'm going to check out a '99 955i Speed Triple today that has 17k miles on it. What do I need to look for when I'm checking it out? Are there any problems that are specific to that year? I know about the clutch cable thing, as well as the steering head bearings. BTW, how can I check out the bearings to tell if they need to be replaced? Wish me luck!

Check it has had the 12k service done as this is a biggy, valve clearances etc.It will require a service at 18k as well. The head bearings can be checked by pulling the bike over on the sidestand, clearing the front wheel of the ground and getting a mate to check freeplay etc on the headstock ,my own has 17, 500 a 2000 model is still in great condition so the 99 should be similar, worth checking all the engine casings for drop damage,a great bike hope its good condition and welcome to the triumph clan, good luck.

Well, I got it! A steal too. It needs a new rear tire, some brake pads on the front and a brake fluid flush, and probably a valve adjustment. BTW, how do you adjust the chain? It's a little bit too slack. I need to pick up a shop manual...

Wow! I don't know what you paid for it, but it looks like the previous owner kept it very stock. That's good because they didn't hack it with bad taste, yet. Get it vetted out by a reputable dealer, and get a triumph manual from ebay or wherever. There are many sites that sell bits for your bike. Just start searching online.. Good Luck.

Yeah, it's bone stock. Nothing has been changed. I got a PDF owner's manual and took care of the chain. I think probably the only aftermarket parts I'll want are a slip on and fender eliminator. I love the way the bike looks just as it is.

she looks clean man.

make sure the male fuel connectors were replaced on recall, and you might consider also changing the female connectors to metal instead of the factory plastic ones.

welcome to the fold.

Also, a seat cowl would look sweet, and get a can of S-100 engine brightener for the motor. You'll be amazed.

It runs great. Starts right up when it's cold, feels like it has full power, etc. I'll definitely look into the fuel connectors. The clutch cable is in great shape with no fraying. The engine oil is clear - the right color. The brake fluid is a little dark, and so is the coolant, so those are getting flushed this afternoon. I can't wait to get it all put together!
