I know that Rizoma makes a very slick set of clip-ons for other S3's.
http://www.rizoma.com/pa350d.html

However being that I have never converted a handlebars to clip-ons, I'm wondering if anybody can tell me about...handling, performance, etc. I understand I won't have the upright position that is stock...but I'm used to the lean forward feel as I previoulsy owned an R6.

There you have it.

The Rizoma product is tip top - I wish I could afford it! I've ordered some LSL clip-ons with a 1" rise (~$190) that will be on my '04 Trip hopefully this weekend. My last bike was a Thrux and I like that riding position - which is very similar to the Daytona and S4. At higher speeds or while accelerating I feel that on the Trip I will be diving in with the clip-ons rather than hanging on with the stock bars. As for handling, I'm hoping it will only get better. The Trips I've seen with various clip-ons look sexy especially with bar end mirrors. I say have at it. I will try to post picks on mine when it's done.

Cheers!

Guess I'll never understand it, for me the wide upright dirtbike bars are, among other things, the very essense of the streetfighter.
Love the leverage, control, and ergonomics they provide.

I wholeheartedly agree!
IMHO, replacing the bars on the Sp3 with clip-ons is like replacing the dual-headlights with a single salad-bowl unit. Sure, it can be done, heck it used to be that way in the days of yore... but why?

Don't bastadize the S3 with clipons, Buy a Daytona if you want clipons.

Wow, can I join your Speed Triple country club? What's the initiation fee? Or do I need to have a spare garage full of bikes to join?

I too wouldn't put clip ons on a Speed Triple. It's just backwards from the whole idea that the S3 represents. I also think that with the seat height and ergonomics that an S3 with clipons would be excruciating except for short rides.

However, if you're dead set on it, here is a picture of one.

I flipped my handlebars to try out the clip-on position, and while it was REALLY uncomfortable, I think it actually gave me a LOT more stability in high speed turns as well as put my weight more on the front end and kept me in that kneedragging tuck which ducked under the wind at high speed A LOT better.

Yeah, stunters and hooligans mostly use bars, but if clip-ons float your boat, go for it. I think this S3 essence ***** is nonsense. A bike is what YOU make it, not what the factory or anyone else thinks it is. Ton Up cafe racer style.
