has anyone with a new S3 been able to do a pure power wheelie in 2nd gear? i've been able to get the front end up for a bit using the ol' push the forks and let them rebound method but i'd much prefer a sit down wheelie and clutching it scares the bajesus out of me.
Not to jump in on an '05 discussion here but if my '03 can do
it, which by the way the feeling is just awesome, you should certainly be able to do it. It's one of those things that if you are willing to twist the grip and hang on... yeehaw!!! :-D

So far I've done them three ways on the 2005:

Ass back in the seat and a full-stop angry twist at 6k. Pure power mono, and it's all in the timing.

A hard shift from first to second will pull it easy, but that's the clutch release helping you there.

The third one is my favorite, and that's the 3/4 roll-on over a small rise in the road........the front lifts like a small airplane getting ready to take off. And it feels like fookin butter, you can carry-em till you run out of road or sack

And I'm working on my first-second upshift mono, but I lack consistency.

BTW the ones in first are an absolute hoot too. Just dial it on as soon as the clutch is out and wait about 1.5 seconds. The motor just goes braaaaaa and the bike lifts it head so willingly it's silly.

Without any headshake on any landings so far. What a nice steering setup.

I've lifted my front in 2nd without the use of the clutch. Get the RPM about half way up and then twist the throttle about 3/4 and it should lift right up.
Yep Sprinklerhead, tried today...so powerwheelies are more than possible in second gear :-D

The other night I was riding in San Francisco and having a bit of fun on the triple. I felt the nicest thing while going down a long steep hill. As I'm going over the crest of one of the cross streets, I give the throttle a bit of a twist to lift the front. The front comes up and continues coming up as the rear starts going down the hill. I've never been one to do wheelies very often, but this ***** bike makes it way too easy.

I've never felt any shake on landings either.

I can powerwheelie my 03 at just about any RPM range in 1st. You just get it going about 3000+ RPMs let off to compress the front end using engine braking, then BAM! wack on some gas and up she comes! I've even done really quick power wheelies starting as high as 7-8000 RPM. At that range she shoots up to the balance point pretty quickly.

Be careful doing power wheelies though, its really easy to give it a bit too much gas and go past the balance point. I've had 2 close calls wacking on the throttle, which is why I want to practice clutching it up this summer so I can get up to the balance point sooner rather than using up my revs getting there.
