I just installed a set of CRG mirrors. They are great. Now what do I do about the mirror holes? I tried a temporary fix with a bolt from Home Depot. I look terrible and was too tight so I didn't bother. I just took off the mirrors for now. Any advice on where I can get some 10mm bolts that will fit and not look cheap.

Thanks in advance.

I went to the local old-fashioned hardware store and found knurled Allen wrench style bolts. (Sorry, I don't recall the name of the bolt.) I spray painted the bolt with flat black automotive paint and then put a flat black flat washer of the proper dimension under the bolt. The thing looks OK.

In the future, I plan to take the bike to a machinist friend of mine and have him make a camera mount for the bike using the existing hole. At least that'll give me another option for the ugly orifice.

Solve Lora Infernis!

Try going to a good hardware store (not Home Despot) and asking for a 10 mm set screw. It will have an allen 6 point hole in it, but when installed will be flush with the top of the hole. These don't have a head on them like a regular bolt, and come in black, usually. Paint it to be sure, or get one in stainless.

Or, you could also get a stainless torx bolt in 10 mm that has a flat head to cover up the hole.

Some automotive suppliers have bolt hole caps that are essentially rubber plugs that just fit in the hole. Failing that, you could make your own with a bit of round plastic stock. Check your local plastics supply warehouse.

Finally, if you're sure you'll never put the old mirrors back on, then you could fill the holes with an epoxy product like JB Weld or Supermend and sand it down smooth. Then carefully paint it.

And, my personall favorite: buy yourself a couple of cup holders and bolt them on in place of the mirrors. Or a puppy bobblehead. Or hula girl. Pretty cool huh?

SilverS3,

Back in January in THIS THREAD MickMaguire wrote:

"Dan,
Triumph do a part that will fill those holes. On the early T3 Daytonas and Trophys they had a black domed plastic plug which blanked off the mirror mounting holes in the master cylinders (as the mirrors were mounted on the firing). I don't have a part number but Great Bay were able to find me some IIRC they were very cheap.

I ordered screws - they are 10mm x 1.25 x 10mm - from Ma's Cycles . . www.mascycles.com. Call up and ask for Bob and he will send you very nice quality screws with both chrome and black end caps so you can choose which color you prefer.

Try an auto store that carries the "Help" line....I think they're actually Motormite. They have little packs of black plastic body plugs/caps in an assortment of sizes. They are about 1/2" to 5/8" in diameter, wafer thin on the exposed top, and the actual plug part fits perfectly into the holes for a clean finished look. You just push them in, and they stay put. Try it and see. :-D

The clip on retainers for clutch and brake handles from the same year Daytona 955 fit perfect. Just the part that the mirror mounts into. I ordered mine from my dealer and got them in a few days... The ones from the Daytona don't have the mounting post holes for the mirrors...Cheap and easy fix, I've even had people ask me if my S3 came stock with the bar end mirrors because there is no mounting points on the bars anywhere....I did the same thing to my 1200 bandit with the gsxr parts....looks just like it was made that way...You might need the top screws for both sides from the Daytona also, I think the top ones are longer on the S3 due to the mirror mount.

later.....gonzo

the left side bracket that held the mirror can be mounted upside down. Then there is nothing sticking up on that side.

hhmmm, if I ever get near a Daytona I'll have to check out how the brake resevoir is mounted. gonzo, it's not the same as the Sp3?
