24K Miles Service

Hello,
My 98 S3 is due for its 24K miles service. I am gonna take it in Tuesday. I got a price quote of about 600$-700$ (i.e. 8.5 hrs of labor). Is this a fair price for the job?
I also have to get new tires (so about another 250$ pirelli diablo), so to reduce cost I am planning to get just the valve check done by the dealer and do the rest of the maintenance by myself. Is there anybody who has done the 24K service here and is there anything I need to watch out for.

hello, i think i would do the same might be worth getting the dealer to check the throttle bodies,etc and to check for any stored faults in the ecu,and update the latest mapping for the fuel injection,the rest is just the usual labour intensive oil and sundries easily carried out by yourself.good luck...ps i paid £400 for the 12k service myself and intend going down the same road as yourself next time. :-D :-D
