Jeez. I have been trying to adjust my '05 Speed Triple rear suspension to the manual recommended "Hard" setting, but the rebound damping adjuster on the lower end of the rear shock does not seem to want to move.

Is there some trick to this one as I have already almost ruined the end of the adjustment screw and the next tool up for the job is an impact driver. I am a little worried about using it as the screw seems to be made out of some very soft metal.

Also is the screw something that is easily replaced without taking the shock off the bike if I ruin it?

Any help will be much appreciated.

edit. If any of you other '05 S3 owners could try to adjust this screw I would also like to hear about it. Does it move freely, am I the only lucky one with the stuck adjuster?

Problem solved. The swedish manual translation that I have has a picture of the right hand side of the bike (pg. 85) and the larger screw on the bottom of the shock. It also states on the written instructions to adjust the screw on the right hand side of the bike.

When in reality the correct adjustment screw is on the LEFT HAND SIDE of the bike! Is my shock assembled on the bike 180 degrees around or is this another manual typo?

Wonder what the opposite side screw is that I have almost completely ruined now? Do I need it before a shock rebuild anyway?

Forget this, I have tried to adjust myself and I have the same problem, it's stuck
I think I have to buy a large (sharp) screw driver and will try again.

I tried the same (wrong) side :hammer:
I don't think you need to replace any parts, the working will remain the same

I think this is a pretty bad typo in the manual as the manual also clearly has a picture of the wrong screw and bike side altogether.

Anyway, I hope this thread helps other people and saves them from f***ing up their shocks.

From the top of my head. The following same amount of turns applies to front comp & rebound and rear comp & rebound settings. Front preload is always 3 and rear preload according to the manual should never be adjusted (which is probably just Triumph covering for their own ass).
Soft: 2.5 turns open
Normal: 2 turns open
Hard: 1.5 turns open

With passanger: front same as hard, but both rear settings 0.75 turns open.

Count the settings you have from the factory, they should be the 'Normal' setting. If not, then my memory is playing tricks on me and you should wait for someone to post the correct info.

I have the manual here now and I almost remembered the settings correctly. Otherwise the settings are as on my previous post, but the 'with passanger' settings should be:

FRONT pre 3, rebound 2, comp 1.5
REAR rebound 0.75, comp 0.75

A noteworthy thing also: on the front forks the screw on the left fork leg is the rebound adjuster and the screw on the right-hand fork leg is the compression damping. (I know, sounds a bit strange and el-cheapo, but that's how it reads in the manual).

Martin, again, thanks much for the info - maybe I'll finally get the manual from my jackass dealer by next summer :hammer:

When we say left, we are speaking from the "sitting on the bike position" left, correct


I guess each fork only has 1 or the other??? LOL!
