My dealer wants $500 for this job! Sounds very pricey to me... am I being had?

I take it this is your second full service (not counting the 500 mile service). If so, it's the one where they check the valves and adjust them if necessary.

Still, 500 bucks does strike me as a bit pricey. I don't remember the Tiger's service being quite that steep, and it uses fundamentally the same engine. But then, maybe my memory isn't all it used to be, and perhaps someone else can address the cost issue in more detail.

I thought the service intervals were 6000 & 12000 , 12000 being the valve check/adjustment.??mines a 2000 model is the 2001 not the same?I was charged £400 for the 12k service.

It sounds like you are being hosed for a valve adjust. It shouldn't need a valve adjust until at lest 12000 miles. Even then I would guess it shouldn't be more than $300 to $350.

Note my Trident was supposed to get a valve adjust at 6000 miles. I finally took it in at 16000 miles and they changed one shim. One. Out of Twelve.

Sigh.

Or the second annual service, per the maintenance schedule, regardless of miles. (Your $350 figure agrees with what I remember for the Tiger, Crash.)

Thanks for the advice, folks.

Yes, I think they're trying to rip me off. This is the same dealership that wants $300 for the 600-mile service on my new Rocket III. I think that's way too pricey for what's essentially just a glorified oil-change.

Looks like it's time to find a different/cheaper/better shop.
