I emailed Mobil oil and asked
Why there is no info on this specialty Oil
Mobil 1 racing 15W-50 4T ?

Here is the reply

The Mobil1 Racing 4T is made by us for Triumph and only available at the dealer. It is not available at retail stores for the general public to purchase. The appropriate motorcycle motor oils available to the general pubilc are Mobil1 MX4T 10W40 and V-TWIN 20W50 motorcycle motor oil.

Just get the Automotive 15/50 Mobil 1, and run that. Problem solved.

Let me add here that I have used Automotive Synthetic oil in my motorcycles now for over 15 years with zero, REPEAT ZERO problems. No clutch problems (and I abuse my clutches when drag racing) no engine problems, and no transmission problems.

Yes, I've read the analysis data that shows that there are different additives in Motorcycle specific motor oil than Auto specific motor oil, but that same study also showed no difference in performance. The chemist who ran the test was baffled by why they should formulate the oils differently. The different additives didn't seem to have any reason for being in the oil.

I'm sure there will be heated debate about this, but my experience speaks for itself. I've used Castrol Syntech for many years, and have switched to Mobil 1 Extended Performance 15-50 about a year ago.

Here is a great article from Motorcycle Consumer News that should help you decide what is right for you. Yes, it's old (1994) but it's still relevant.

Sorry to have to bring this topic up again, but I've searched high and low and cannot find plain vanilla Mobil1 15W-50 ANYWHERE. It isn't even advertised on their site any more. They have a new formula(?) in a fancy new bottle they call 'Extended Performance' that runs $5.50-$6.00.

Could this be ok to run in our scoots?

I've run 5W-30 in my Honda car at 15k mi intervals with great results. (empirically tested by http://www.blackstone-labs.com/).

Thanks y'all.

How long do you guys go between oil changes???????? The manufacturers recommended mileage distance between oil changes seems a little lengthy to me. Any comments?????

I run the Mobil1 15-50 Extended performance which is like $19 for 5 liters at Walmart. No problems and I save about $30.

Change my bikes' oil and filter at 3 grand regardless of the recommendations. Use only Mobil 1 Racing 15W-50 RT and Triumph filters. Change coolant once a year, using Engine Ice. Clean and lube the chain every 300 miles. Wash and wax the bikes after every ride. Keep both bikes in the garage when not being ridden.

For me, taking care of my bikes is a ritual that may/may not save money, but it is part of what I enjoy doing. My opinion on using other than the recommended oil? Go for it. Do what makes you feel good. I don't think the bikes care.

:-) ;-) :hihi:
