I used the official Triumph black gold and filters for most of my two year warranty period (changed every 3-4000 miles) then switched to Mobil 1 15w-50 (aka 'red cap"). I now use Mobil 1 15w-50 "gold cap". I found it for under $5/qt at WalMart.
There's a test somewhere on the web that shows the new gold cap really is an improvement over red cap and is probably better for bikes too. Saw a link to the test on Sport-Touring.net many months back shortly after gold cap was introduced. I've just switched from official Triumph oil filters to Purolator Pure One PL14610 filters too. Price of an oil change with high quality materials is down to about $22 now. Works for me, YMMV...
