Hi all...Been lurking around the board for a little while now and decided to join. I have to say, this is a very informative site! I don't have a speed triple just yet but the time is coming closer. I just need to find the "perfect" one for me. The dealer near me only has 2 leftovers (03 and 04) but neither is in a color I like and theyre not getting any 05's in until August, which I thought was a little wierd.
Now...on to my question. How are these bikes for 2-up riding? I notice the 05 seems to have a shorter seat so I'm guessing that it's less comfortable for the person in the rear. My fiancee won't be riding back there much, just for a little run every now and again but I don't want her to feel like she's falling off the back of the bike either.

i ride with my gf on the back. she doesnt complain about anything and holds on tightly. i, however, have never been comfortable with it and its extremely dangerous for city riding. when i get new cans i'm going to take the rear sets off and get the seat cover for the rear and say 'to hell with it'. i'd kill myself if i ever hurt her on it and i know thats the nature of the beast. but, to answer your question... no specific problems. just expect to have the tank in your crotch b/c she's going to be all up on your back.

No doubt about it, the pre-2005s are better from a pillion standpoint.

My fiancee rides with me occassionally and doesn't complain too much. Obviously, it won't be as comfortable as a tourer, but it's ok for short trips or around town. She mainly gets uncomfortable in the knees and ankles. We've done a 300 mile trip on my Speed Triple in one day (she was a real sport), but made sure to take a lot of breaks for her to stretch out - usually about every hour or so.

Her main complaints are that even though I adjust the suspension for a pillion, bumpy roads make her feel like she's going to get bucked off, she has trouble seeing in front of me and around my big Arai helmet (to watch for bumps and upcoming stops), and I lean over too far in the twisties!!!
