Like I said I did drill a hole through the divider plate, it's louder, but not as bad as I thought it might be, in my diagram the green line would go straight through. Actually if you want, just drill through the divider on the exhaust side, it will take a long drill bit or an extension. I don't know what size I used, probably like 7/8" or so in diameter. This would leave the catalyst intact, assuming you didn't drill too far.

Thx Brad

I'll post the pics tonight for you. I'm at work right now.

Does anyone have the OD of the mid pipe where it goes into the can?

I drilled the divider plate. I used a long 6.5mm drill bit. I made seven holes in each silencer. Seven for no other reason that they could be conveniently made. I was careful not to touch the catalyzers.

The dealer had a demo bike with factory stainless cans and I would say that the drilled ones sound exactly the same.It is hard to tell if it pulls better but at least not worse for sure. :-D

Here are the pics. Sorry it took me a couple of days. I resized them for you to make them a little bit easier to see.

Did you "have to" cut the body in order to get the core out? I would have thunk with some persuasion you could have possibly pressed out the core? Or no?

Another way that might work as a simpler alternative is after taking length measurements of the removed core assembly, and marking a straight line from end plate to end plate for re-assembly reference, take a hacksaw, cutter, what have you, and cut both ends of the existing perforated core about an inch or two inward from the end plates. Cut all the way through all inner tubes etc. Pitch the center portion entirely. Then using new stainless perforated stock, cut to required length and form an oval core that will fit tightly "over" the remaining portion of core on each end piece. Line up ends with a straight edge, also making sure the length is the same as originally, then tack weld the ends to the core, then finish weld. Tightly wrap fiberglass "blanket" (Cycle Gear and others carry this..mostly for dirtbikes, I think it was FMF brand..) around the core and reassemble.
I had "oem quiet" brushed alum. Termi's on my Laverda that I recently did this to, which by looking at the photos of the S3's, are pretty much the same internally, without the catalyst. You will get a nice deep sound from the large core silencer vs. a small volume core, which will have a sharper sound.
All you'd be doing essentially is removing the entire center core, and sliding a new core in place.
Pretty quick and clean...worth a try. :???:

I don't see and easier way then what I did.And there is no way to get it out completely with out cutting the can the entire lenght then pealing it off the stock guts.I used perferated tube and made a fixture to cut a 2 inch hole in the back of the stock can then welded it up with stainless 316 .030 wire. Polished it and then wraped it with glass and replaced all the rivets with closedend stainless rivets. The finished photos will be posted soon i hope.Any questions feel free to ask. Matt
