What Accessories to Buy First? $'s to burn...

Hi all,

I just purchased an `09 Speed Triple. As part of the deal, I have store credit for accessories. What are the must have accessories? I'm talking anything from tank protector, to fly screen, to exhaust. Give me some hints on how to spend my $'s.

The one my wife bought for me came with Arrow 3 into 1, pazzo shorties and Triumph bar end mirrors. The only thing that was a must have for me was heated grips but for january riding in Canada understandable I think.

Since then I have added some other trinkets but the only other thing I felt that was really necessary was a flyscreen to stop the chest pounding at highway speeds. My 2 cents.

1 major one is, if you dont have the personal expertise, to get someone that does to set up the bike properly (suspension)...or as best as it can if you dont have coin enough for new springs and fork internals. If you are just whippin' it up on the streets but being sane about it, it's no biggie but pushed beyond street centric duties the softer-bouncier side of the springs show their untidy petticoats...again the softer spring is great for 'street bike' duties but when seriously haulin a$$ they can limit you a tad...again..at the extreme end of things..

edit: Radiator Guard should be your first spend (lol...)

second...cooler mirrors, i'm a fan of CRG-LS barends myself..just the one will do. Two makes you come across as too respectable.. Rizoma reverse retros are very cool also but for me a tad too visually busy...they work better than he CRG's tho so far as visual estimation of rearward objects go (get the pair..as well as the rizoma barends to attach them to

D675 footpegs..the stock ones on the S3 can get slipery I think.

tankpad..the Triumph branded one. Stops your batman belt-buckle from scratching the tank as well.

Pazzo, I have long clutch and shorty brake. I thought the shorty clutch for me made me not so smooth and nuanced on the clutch. Long lever for me allows effortless and 'thoughtless' smoothness and precision of employment.

belly pan. A nice complementary visual accent to the overall package...the hankerchief in the breast pocket if you will..

I dont think the flyscreen does much of any note to control wind blast or deflection..the bike is too darned naked. So if you are jonesing for a flyscreen, do so for visual reasons and not functional.

Exhaust....a slip-on of your liking. Unless you are racing I think a full system is only necessary when you know it's necessary if you dig me...or if you have that kind of coin to splurge with then go for it.

I actually like the rear end of the 08-09's but like others maybe you already have a plan for a fender eliminator kit. Just be aware of the unavoidable skunk stripe if you ride in wet weather.

In order of importance:
- oil filters from Amazon and few quarts of dino oil - break it in properly! Read about it here or many other place on the web.
- hugger to keep crap off the shock
- shop manual if you want to do your own maintenance
- sliders - saves paintwork if you lay it down in garage and your leg if you go down
- pazzo levers - it's not a bling, but serious improvement in control feel and precision (for me at least)

These are necessary to start with. Other you can do later - you'll find a lot of ideas here how to spend your money. For me it was dual Arrows (very much disliked the look of stock cans) and flyscreen (a little protection pushing up the cruising speed).
Have fun!

Save your money and skip the fly screen and belly pan...they'll only slow you down! That's near $500 alone!?! A gel seat is better money spent seeing how once you roll it off the lot you won't be able to get off it!!!

YOUR bike. YOU have to decide what YOU like.
Besides, you never said how much money you have to spend.

Since you say store credit i am going to only mention the triumph branded accessories. I had a 1k credit when i bought my bike, used it for the dual arrows, which i love the sound. Definitely want to get the hugger as well to keep crap off the shock. Might want to look into the triumph mirrors... i bought the much cheaper napoleon mirrors, work alright but the finish is quite faded after a years worth of riding.

from the stealer, factory parts, id say exhaust and tune, belly pan, maybe a seat? A rear hugger would be a good choice as well.
