HIDs run cooler and draw less power once running ( a little more just at start up).
I've had them on my car and love the output, but I don't want to lose my high beams or only have one light running.

Remember the Triumph has dual beam bulb - with HID's they have a warm-up period, so it is not really feasible to utilize the high beams. So you will be stuck with low beam only - not even having flash high beam available.
The alternative is to have one light conventional dual-beam halogen & one HID, then wire (with diode) so that the HID is always active in low or high beam beam modes, and the other will toggle between low & high as normal. This might be a reasonable compromise.
