You bought a speed triple to keep your life and license?!? LOL! The thing is a hooligan bike. I guess if you aren't playing monocycle on a daily basis you'd be alright on a triple, lol. I refuse to keep the front end on the ground.

if you said you had a sports bike then you turned up on a V Strom you would get laughed at!!!
+1 but if you then proceeded to ride the piss out of it, you'd be doing the laughing. So mainly it depends on the rider.

To answer your orig. question, if on a sportbike scale, a GSXR is a 10, the V-storm is probably a 4 at best. Many features of the V-storm aren't up to par with todays sportbikes: Brakes - dual discs but only 2-pot calipers... Suspension - older style cartridge forks and mono-shock with no compression damping anywhere, and 6.3 inches of travel up front (!). Tires - 150 rear, not exactly sporty rubber. Engine - HP numbers aren't even mentioned on suzuki.com? Any supersport 600 sportbike would be able to out-run a V-storm (anywhere) as long as the riders were similar. Your Rocket would roast this thing from stoplight to stoplight, no problems, but a good rider might get you in the twisties, due to your lack of ground clearance.

Having said that, the V-storm looks like a great all-around bike for long trips and less than perfect terrain. YMMV

The V-Strom (german word and correct spelling) has the same powerplant as the SV1000 twin and all the reviews I've read have said it is an absolute peach to ride when it comes to dual-sport bikes out there. I was actually considering this bike in my lineup of choices. I haven't had a test ride, but I wouldn't put it at a 4 out of 10. Maybe more like a 6 considering its role and powerplant.

It isn't going to be winning any drag races, but I'll bet it is a LOT more comfortable than the GSXR, although the new 05 GSXR1k is under 400 lbs dry and VERY flickable. It also can power wheelie doing roll-ons in 2nd gear with the stock setup.

Blasting around town or on day rides on back roads the Strom is a 3 or four and the S3 is a 9 or10. But riding coast to coast, three days out, somewhere in the midwest, in cold rain, looking at at least two more days the scale reverses. The strom is a tourer that offers simplicity and light weight relative the typical tourers. The Tiger is Triumph!

You would all be AMAZED what I've done to sport bikes with this thing, I put a lot into it, but got back a bike that can do it all.

Omega, I wouldn't be surprised if a seasoned rider on a VStrom diced up a couple "teenagers that are on/want to be on" a sportbike. That 'Zuki 1000twin is no joke. And though I see your Strom is def. not stock [nice btw], you can't contest the sheer suspension and performance superiority on a contemporary stock sportbike vs. adventure tourers [sans rider's skill].

Dragline, f*ck the power to weight ratio, your Rocket has 141 lb-ft torque measured at the wheel! I've seen pics of that 800lb behemoth being wheelied like a dirbike. Motorcyclist got that bad boy down a 1/4mile in 11.21 seconds, that tops a Honda Superhawk, Ducati SS900 and a Buell XB12R. You should humble before no sportbike at a stoplight if you've got the talent.

kuhlka my S3 is the best bike i have ever owned make no mistake but compared to the sportsbikes I used to own it doesnt have the top end, had a ZX9 that you would look at the speedo and realise your doing 120mph and not even trying! Thats why i came away from the sportsbikes cos it was to easy to go to ***** fast. And as for you other guys yes it does come down to the rider as every day i see a guy on a dog old BMW tourer destroying the traffic at mad speeds....the rider is in his 60s. Still wouldnt buy a VStrom though...
