Hey all I bought my 03 Speedtriple Febuary of 04, and ride it everyday to work, year round. The bike has given me an effortless 16000 miles. Yesterday all of a sudden there is a loud clanking bang, bang, bang, but only when the bike is in 2nd gear. I still have all the power, and the bike is normal except for this horrible noise. I know the sound is coming from inside the engine, and only in second gear.

Does , or has anyone else experienced this problem?

The bike is still under warranty thankfully.

It sounds like you broke a tooth off a cog. Did you ever miss a shift and crunch it into 2nd? Get it looked at asap.

that sounds like what happened to me with my RS at about 30,000 miles. what it wound up being was the clip that holds the bar that the shift forks move on fell off. It was about a dollar part. What you can do to see if that is it; is to pull off the front sprocket cover and look behind the front sprocket. What you are looking for is a "U" shaped clip with a hex head bolt holding it in witch is holding a round rod. what happens is that clip falls off and the rod will slide into the motor and hit against the flywheel and thus making the clunk sound and that then pops the rod back out. Mine did that for about 2 days and then it stuck in and locked the bike in first gear. I would check it out ASAP!!! check that your self or get it to a dear.....

good luck,

Mike

Ok, second gear has 3 teeth sheared off, and 6th has collateral damage from it. It has been in the shop since June 4th, and after alot of red tape the parts are being ordered for it today, and all paid for by Triumph.
