I've done this before on a 96 Trident clutch cover and it works admirably. Only difference is I had to use a little JB Weld (an epoxy filler/glue material) to fill a few of the scratches and I used semi-gloss high temperature engine paint.
If you are really anal about it, go to a local paint supplier and ask them who locally does powder coating. Chances are there are a number of them who will do a clutch cover for $25 to $40-- but be sure to do all the sanding first yourself and make sure it's to your satisfaction.
