Did anyone's 05 S3 come completely comvered in Cosmoline? Mine is...

I think my dealer didnt do a very good job of cleaning it.

any suggestions? A "wipe" of the wheel results in black gunk!

btw - I also have the mutilated front tank bolt. what the heck are they doing at the factory? The head pattern looks almost stripped!

Yeah, mine came fully annointed with the stuff too. Even on the front tire.......

I have had good results taking stickers and glue off with lamp oil of all things. It seems to break down the glue without being aggressive on the paint. Give it a try on the cosmo poop.

Stuff like Goof-Off can be tough on the finish. (but it's the choice of high class huffers nationwide )

Just plain ether based starter fluid in a spray can is great for removing cosmoline. I found that out years ago when cleaning up equipment shipped from overseas. Pay particular attention to the oil cooler. Mine was perfectly clean when I got it, but by the time I got it home I thought it had a leak in the oil cooler. Turns out it was just the residual oil on the surface getting warm and blowing backwards over the motor. After a couple of good cleanings with hot soapy water I have no more problems with this.

When I bought my 03 S3 last year it had a few small places on the engine that were still covered. I use dish soap and water. On the real thicks spots I used the soap straight from the bottle on an extra soft tooth brush.

Note:

I was advised not to use dish soap often on the body work and other painted areas as it can damage the finish. For normal washes I use an automotive car wash.

Since we are on a similar topic I would like to advise all riders to NEVER ever use a product call Simple Green general purpose spray cleaner. It advises that it can be used on cars bikes etc. and that it will not harm the paint. On my 01 Bonnie I used this stuff to clean off some chain lube that was on my black painted chain guard. It removed the shine on the black chrome and made it a dull aged finish. I never could get the shine back.

wow... you guys that picked up your bikes and still had that on there must have crappy dealers!!!

My dealer totally details out a bike before you get it. He goes as far as removing all of the torque paint makes on the bolts....

'Bout time man! Congrats.
Let the corner scraping and the monos begin. You are going to love how this fornicator corners. Run your tires at the spec 34/42 and she'll dive for the apex.

BTW, ordered a TFI box yesterday. Saved $100 because I'll be pioneering the installation and settings for the 05 with the help of their tech guy.

all triumphs come out of the crate covered in coz. if your dealer didnt detail it, you need to have a talk with the guy that took the 10 grand from you and gave you a dirty bike. if you look at your setup sheet (p.d.i. - pre delivery inspection) you pay for everything that is done to that bike to set it up for you. now, if your detailed bill of sale doesnt show that a cost was incurred to you for set up, then get the cycle wash and hot water out and start scrubbing. some dealers will blow off the usual "detail and clean" if the customer negotiated no charge for set up and just give a quick lazy spray and wipe down.
